Its sad when a lion in Africa gets more news attention than a terrorist attack the kills 5 Servicemen on US soil.

It is expected - all part of the distraction methodology.

Thats our media in a nut shell.
Beatup anything gun related, you'll NEVER hear a positive gun story from Australian media.
And the sheeple lap it up.

buggamesideways what a lot of hooha over one overgrown pussy cat!!!!!!
if guy had tag/ was licenced
if he "thought" he was in right place and guide said "shoot"
if he paid his trophy fee
if the cat died quickly and cleanly
where is the harm??????
no different to shooting ducks/swan/geese as they leave a reserve is it????
was said cat wearing a flea collar with a birdie bell attached????
No??? so its feral.........
I got asked how to tell if a cat dead in my kill traps was feral or someones pet
my non PC reply "to borrow a phrase from the US Rangers in the 1970s if its dead and Vietnamese its a vietcong"
as for having a go at other hunters who are on guided hunts......FFS should we be targeting learner drivers who hire an instructor next????
or mountaineers who hire a Sherpa??????

Don't you hold back now Elvis, ya hear.
Unfortunately you are right mate. It is a shame to see a semi domesticated lion killed like that, but as you rightfully point out, so long as all fees were paid, and the professional hunter identified the lion as fair game, them the shooter is in the clear. If anything, it is the professional hunters who should be bought to task (which I believe is happening)...I mean, it is their hunting grounds and they are obliged to know the whys, whats and wherefores of the area and game.

"Was said cat wearing a flea collar with a birdie bell attached????"
Almost Elvis almost.
Apparently under it's mane it had a tracking collar.
This cat was in no way shape or form domesticated, it was wild.
As for the good dentist, he paid for the shoot and shot in good faith and unfortunately will be paying for some time to come.
Being American a law suite against the safari company is probably in the wings and deservedly so.

Not a fan of trophy hunting, but don't belittle those who are. Paid his licensing fee, had guides and a pro with him. Not so sure about a clean kill, but cannot believe too much of what the media is saying. All I've heard was a crossbow shot and had to track for more than a day to finish the kill (guy needs more practice). This is all gun grabbers, and PETA types sob assing about something that would eat them at first chance, hey that sounds like an idea.

With trophy hunting a lion is worth around $50,000 to the local economy so they are protected. Without trophy hunting a lion is a 400 pound "rat" which eats the locals' livestock and sometimes the locals themselves.
Which way do you think is the best way to keep the species going?

Heard that the bloody Zimbabwean Govt is trying to extradite (or extort more likely) the dentist for the hunt as well.
