Ron...I believe a big part of the problem in Belgium is the bleeding heart do-gooders who believe in ethnic diversity, that all ethnic groups can live together in harmony. With this in mind they allowed any and all to enter the country. By the time they realised their mistake, it was too late...the terrorists had capitalised on the goodwill of Belgium.

I think the terrorist problems they are facing now stem from steps taken by the Govt to try to undo the problem they tied themselves into with their racial diversity policies.

Other countries need to take heed of what is happening in different European countries and take steps to ensure it doesn't happen "at home". But of course the "warm and fuzzy, "touchy feely", tree hugging, kumbayar, politically correct morons will still believe you can pick up a turd by the clean end and allow the troublemakers (read terrorists) into the country.

but, but they are refugees not, ... not terrorists.
we have to share what we have built so they can tear it down and make us refugees.

NOT ON MY WATCH!

Being a person of ethnic background I believe the problem is the unwillingness to embrace the society ideas of the adopted country.
Many migrants tends to flock to others of the same culture or ideology rather than assimilate to the main population.
Government should push for more assimilation rather than giving to the demand of isolationist.
Swearing allegiance to an adopted county is no longer taken seriously, it is now much of a lip service rather than want from the heart.
It is sad really..

+1 mate.

Assimilation is the name of the game. Be prepared to assimilate or don't come.

They will assimilate you! Resistance is futile.

New citizens used to work very hard to join the culture they moved into. I guess that is too old fashioned for immigrants today.

Either that or they don't plan to become a part of the country and want to change it to meet their religious and societal paradigm.

Remember what Dyslexic of Borg says, "Your ass will be laminated!"

On a serious note, I have never understood the idea of moving somewhere because you like the culture/living conditions/etc. and then trying to change it to be like wherever you came from. Years ago I was talking to someone who moved here from a northern state and all he did was bitch about the local people, etc. I finally told him that he just need to go the F "home" or shut up.

I fully understand and support being proud of, and remembering, your heritage but you can't isolate yourself from the community you live in and expect to prosper. I'm proud of my Irish, Southern, North Carolina heritage but I am an AMERICAN.

the internet has a large part to play in this.
go back 50 years and if you shifted you either blended in and got along or got plurry lonely plurry quickly...you adapted to those around you . now you can shift elsewhere and still be in daily communication with people on the other side of the globe, buy you groceries etc online and never have to leave the house.
go back 50 more and no phones bugger all radio and no television
so you REALLY had to try hard and blend in,also if you misbehaved you would have had your arse kicked by the locals and then the local copper.

I have a new partner to work with (in a closed room, just the 2 of us) and she is from Costa Rica. Every day I hear "you Americans don't ______" (fill in the blank) or can't or whatever, it drives me nutz. She has citizenship here but puts down American culture, tradition and every other thing that she didn't grow up with. Very socialist leaning, as in everyone deserves free education, free healthcare and so on....it's hard to have a conversation. It does makes you wonder why people move here. Just a safer place to hide? or what? Gotta be some good reason but if you talk to this one you'd believe she's made a bad decision and sure isn't making friends with me. Cracks me up because she's always being identified with Mexicans and she just hates Mexicans. I guess I'm a good little Indian cause she's never thought I was a Mexican, interestingly my heritage is intermingled with Mexican and so is my culture, so I'm secretly hiding a truth that will some day bomb her ideas of me out da widow. Should be fun.

I always thought I'd be more accepting but after hearing the sarcasm and hate from her, it's put a new pattern of reluctance in my heart. I will blame our government for operating our gateway as if an open door policy and not reacting to illegal border crossings and over-stayed visas. We have become polluted and our dirty floors need cleaning, vacuuming and disinfecting. No one wants to take charge and get their hands dirty at the expense of political correctness and ethnic voter counts.

Probably a lot of places want a do-over on immigration policies and with the current mayhem (that has turned world wide) being like a plague of unknown proportions, who could blame them.

Reminds me of a guy named Howard Ruff who wrote a book called the "Coming Bad Times" and a news letter (I think?) called Ruff Times, he wrote in his book about how to position yourself globally but I bet he didn't have this crap in mind. Stay away from big cities and become self sufficient was his big strategy in the '70s? and guess what....it's a good idea.
