Since there is a topic going on about cast bullets and pistols I wonder what your thoughts would be if you cast rifle bullets and put them through normal rifles ?? Confused

I'm talking calibers like the 30-06 or 8mm Mauser Smile Not mag's as I think it might be hard to find a powder which will filll the case and not cause really high velocitys. Smile

G'Day Dimitri. I do it all the time with my Mod 94 in 30.30 WIN. I cast 150gn FNGC from an RCBS mould. Because they are gas checked I drive them at normal rifle velocities without any problems.

Vince,

Neat. Do you think it would be posible to use cast bullets in a 30-06 w/ gas checks though ?? Confused

No problems with casting them and is a gas checked design. The bullet I cast is a .308 so it is suitable as far as size is concerned.

Don't know how a cast bullet would go in a 30.06 though....they drive them pretty hard. Although I have sen cast bullets used in a .308.

Maybe there is someone out there who has had experience with cast bullets in the 30.06.

Great idea and I have been loading cast bullets in a .35 Remington, .444 Marlin, .30-06 and 8mm Mauser for years. I mix linotype with wheelweights and get a very hard bullet. The key is to avoid driving the bullets too fast. I have been impressed with the .444 Marlin. It is good and cheap shooting. All the best...

I use hard cast GC bullets in the 270Win, 30-06 and 338WM for a lot of practice sessions as well as jackrabbit hunts. Good stuff, accurate and they only make the barrels better, sorta like lapping them with every shot.

My favorites rifle cast, however, is the 348 Winchester with 250gr cast. What a sweet shooting rifle.
