awesome article on the trap....Ive got some really big plastic bags that hold 30-40 litres of water...only work for one shot but bullets dont go through them Ive also used 3-4 bottles in a row that stopped projectile and just tipped it out of still full but leaking bottle...I could wait till SWMBO is not looking and knock over one of the sheep...however the bullet hole in forequarter roast would probably give me away.

this is 125grn nosler ballistic tip at 100 yards from 7.62x39mm so should be 2200fps ish

Wow, some exit wound. Did it hit her spine and explode?

I like this idea. The rubbers crumbs are used for playgrounds and walkways.

hell yes. didnt loose anymore than a neck chop or two.
just had sausages for tea that were made with venison and front half of "Maa Baa"
it worked out perfect, I thought I had her cold at 30 yards so had loaded a subsonic round but cunning ol girl had moved off. I swapped out loads and watched her through scope till she turned side on then reached out for one more tender mouthful then put her lights out PERMANENTLY ..no more will she lead the other sheep away when we trying to round them up. Very Happy
who said .308 wont work in x39mm Scratch
who said it not fast enough to expand Scratch
and yes Mac it took out spine/neck..quite well I thought Very Happy Very Happy

those few barnes 50 grn loads take red deer down with chest shots no trouble at all....... so far I think weve taken 6 with them without issues.
also taken a few pigs, nothing huge but 80lb sow at 175ish yards took two both too far back and tipped over.
I have great faith in these (David vs Goliath) loads and always carry half a dozen of them incase we encounter a deer.

Elvis, thanks for reporting back. Contrary to the threads title, the 70gr .223 GMX isn't new anymore. Hornady has come out with a 2nd generation expansion cavity with their "new" 55gr .223 GMX and its expansion is very impressive. In close, it will triple its diameter if shoot from a 1:8 twist or faster. It is sensitive to twist rate. I have found some of the Barnes bullets expand more with faster twist rates (.277 110 TTSX) but I haven't tested the .223 Barnes bullets enough to tell.

Slimjim me old mate...Im begiggered if I can find your thread where you were testing the .277 monos and you had velocity n energy figures showing the 110 was BETTER option than the 130s......any chance you can bump it for me PLEASE.

While I'm looking mate, I haven't found the 110 was a better option then the 130's. The 110s do well up close but lose too much energy down range. I switched to 130s in my .270 and now use the Barnes 129 LRX. I've also found that, with monolithic copper bullets, twist rate directly relates to bullet expansion. the more twist the more the bullet expands.

Elvis, I found it in the link above. I included the graph below to make sure this was the one you were thinking of. Now I know why you were saying the 110 out performed (expanded more than the 130s). The 110 shown that had more expansion was the 110 TSX designed for the slower 6.8mm SPC not to be confused wtih the 110 TTSX designed for the energy of the .270 Win. You can shot the 110 TSX in a .270 Win but in close the bullet's petals will break away which I'm finding lately is very lethal. I've been using 55gr E-Tips launched at 3400 fps out of my Valkyrie. They are vaporizing coyotes and I even dropped a 350 pound boar at 175 yards with this little bullet.

thats the one thanks Mate....its actually the earlier graph that has the energy figures and the 110 beats the 140 and 150 at all ranges shown on graph...I couldnt get my head around it then. I will pass this on to others on another forum . Bruce is having a great run with 117grn hammer hunter projectiles....270wsm at 3450ish they designed to shed petals.....hmmmmm
Thanks again.
