A few years back when I was experimenting with 300 Whisper, I have seen and played with 30-357 Magnum made by a guy in the gun club.
Not bad really. quite interesting to shoot, but the owner at the time have not yet got the right formula for the load thus it groups pretty large (if my memory serve right it was about 7 ring in the 100 meter target (about 6 inches or so spread)
But it definitely have good potential.

Ok guys, Tatu is doing good, and actually she is doing very good all things considered. Her bottom jaw was crushed, and the complete area under her tongue was mangled into pieces! Her jaw wad fixed by the surgeon using Tatu's blood to mix with a special type of powder they use to make bone graff's with. He pieced everything back together, and the new x-rays look great!

Ok, back to the 300X357 magnum. Give me some ideas on throat length. Right now, it's perfect for bullets 150 gr. and less. Most likely this gun will only wear a red dot sight and not a scope, so range will be somewhat limited. Those 208 gr. A-MAX bullets are too expensive to keep shooting, so I need to find another bullet in the 180 to 200 gr. weight range. I would like to find a good deal on either a 180 gr. round nose or even a 200 gr. round nose, since this will be my wife's deer gun with sub-sonic loads...

Some food for thought here David...

NOE .30 bullet moulds

Cast bullets are the way to go with subsonic loads mate. Have a look at LEE’s book on cast loads to tailor the bullets to the powder load and velocity. My mate and I have played with subsonic cast loads for plinking and found that a 14-16 BRN coupled with the right powder makes for an accurate subsonic load in my 30.30, his .308 and 8mm Mauser.

Gelandangan has played a fair bit with subsonic loads in his .300 Whisper and also 45.70 using cast bullets with success, so he will probably have some good data on file.

English Mike - I forgot all about Sierra's 220 gr. Round Nose!

Vince - I talked with LEE and they make a 230 gr. mold specifically for the 300 Blackout, which would be absolutely perfect for my little 30X357 that I am putting together...

I just checked MIDWAY USA and they have that mold on sale for $19.79

It is a double mold that comes complete with wood handles. I just may have to order that, mold a couple of bullets, then throat my barrel specifically for those bullets! That would be far cheaper than buying jacketed bullets for sure.

With all the money we pour into rifles, scopes, hunting gear, and hunting trips, why is there a drive to find inexpensive bullets?

I am willing to pay for a good rifle, scope, and effective bullets, also. There aren't that many choice for subsonic hunting bullets. The bullet is this post had become my choice when subsonic.

Slimjim,

I will buy a box of those bullets, and if they are accurate in this new 30X357, that will be bullet my wife uses this year, to kill her very first deer!

I called the company about those bullets, and they said they are accuracy tested in the 300 Blackout with a 1-8" twist rate barrel. That gives me good hope that they will be accurate in this new little rifle. Whenever I get the chance to order some and work up a load with them, I will definitely be reporting back on them...

the 180grn round nose hornadies are cheap...and the one that I head shot pig with the other day preformed perfectly...through head, demolished neck ,through couple of ribs and stopped at 2nd tit weighing 102.5grns.... a heck of a lot of us KIWIs are using 151 grn cast in .30 cal as a fella is selling then for $15 per hundred and they work really well at slow speed. they look and preform like a powerpoint .22lr. the blackout heavy one is a brick...no hollow point if its the same one we seeing over here.just flat front. not far off a cylinder really.

Deer Sniper, I was able to develop a load that was 3/4 moa with 10.8 grains of AA1680. However, as the temperature warmed (and maybe my barrel was getting broken-in) the velocity crept up and a few rounds were breaking the sound barrier so I dropped the load to 10.5 grains. adjusted COAL, and got it back to 1.5 moa which with my 100 yard self-imposed limit I thought was good enough and pressed. I was battling cycling issues which I resolved on the last outing. So the potential is there for effective accuracy.

Those 195 gr. MKZ bullets are quite impressive to say the least. I will definitely be shooting them before long, and see just how well this new rifle likes them...

Looking at that pig you posted the picture of, that mouth and those lips look nothing like what I have ever seen before! Extremely weird looking!

I don't have one and really don't want one!

I can make one as good as better than any that are on the market, but I have no need for one.

David, that wee beastie looks absolutely beautiful mate...I love the TC platform. From the sounds of things, you are on a real winner with this new gun for SWMBO.

On a separate note, condolences to you, your wife and her family on the passing of your sister-in-law. She is in God’s care now. Please pass on my commiserations and prayers mate.

Thank you Vince. I much prefer the Contender platform over the larger Encore platform, as the Contender serves all my needs very well...

Thank you again Vince. Knowing that Pam didn't leave home, but went home to be with the Lord, is the only part of this that makes it bearable. She was truly a wonderful lady, and she was dearly loved by so many people...
