Hi Ya'll

I am a wood type person. I grew up in the woods and have always been surrounded by Mother natures finest. So it goes with my preference of stock mterial. Opinions?

I like the wood too. I can regulate the weight of the stock with the amount of oil I put on it after the stain. If I put it on warm, and let it really soak in it makes the stock a lot heavier than if you just put a few quick coats of oil or some spar varnish on it. A well oiled stock looks better than anything I have ever seen in a plastic finish - even the wood with a plastic over it.

Have both wood and synthetic.

Was always a wood person, not anti-synthetic, just preferred wood but since getting my Weatherby Vanguard with its synthetic stock I can see "value" in it. Takes knocks and bumps better, doesn't damage as easily, it feels fairly reasonable in the hand and stands up to weather a bit better than wood and you can get it in all different colours if you are that way inclined.

Having said that, nothing feels better than a nice "warm" piece of wood..... Nothing looks better than a lovely piece of grained wood (artificial grain doesn't even come close)...... Nothing more satisfying than sitting down and cleaning or refinishing a wooden stock, the finished product is warming to the soul.

So wood or synthetic....either/or, but wood still comes out ahead in the sentimental stakes.

Cheers, Vince

Dido Vince. I like the looks & feel of wood. Wish I could have had my Vanguard in wood, but, face it, anymore can't justify the expense or the practicality. All my lever actions are wood, and they just plain look good. And that Browning BAR Safari I got, most impressive. I wonder what my AR15 would look like in wood? emmmm, ...nah Shooting

Always thought I was a wood person till I got a synthetic stock. After that I found out I really didn't care much one way or another what the stock was made of. If I could get it to shoot decent was and is my biggest concern. Hats off to whatever stock you have.--tr

I don't know Dimitri...Some of our modern steel alloys are pretty good. Remember that the receiver of the Winchester mod 94 has been nickle-steel for a bunch of years. and the new steel alloys....Well.

Bushmaster,

I understand that advancments in types of steel is good. Smile I've got no problem with ANY steel allow. Cool But I just dont understand the drive to use polymers, aluminum and titanium in guns. Confused

The new Remington 105CTi for example is just one of thouse "space age" guns that you'd never see me with, Thin titanium reciver with a plastic shell. What were they thinking ?? wtf

I like the wood stocks best. Sorry Bushy, I am going to use some wood as well. Shocked In fact I don't have a synthetic stock on any of my guns. Very Happy
