Will be a couple hours away from the event this weekend as I travel. A knapping buddy here in TX says it's a good event. I've never been. Trying to talk myself into going! Any buddy here been?

Thanks for any reply.

Like, do you have any more info on the event? I can't find any mention of it on-line.

From Flintknappers.com event list:

Kit Carson Native Arts Festival & Knap-in - TN
Website: flintknappers.com/flie...on2019.pdf
Everyone is invited to this free event. Please see the flier for more details... Located on the Carson Homeplace - 481 Curtis Chapel Rd. McEwen, TN 37101.

The flyer shows the same info. I'm thinking I'll swing thru on Friday and check it out. If need be, maybe hover so I could do Sat also.

Flint knapping is something I've always wanted to try.

Flint is not something regularly found down here in OZ, but no doubt it is here...I just haven't looked hard enough. I'm sure it is common where Elvis lives in NZ...the Shaky Isles...no shortage of old volcanoes there to find obsidian to knapp. An obsidian knife would be great to have if for no other reason than as a conversation piece.

I've seen videos where guys use the base of beer bottles because it is thick enough to knapp and produce things like arrowheads.

I've read that 'back then' they had trouble keeping the telegraph service operational in your land. The people that needed knapping materials would steal the glass insulators off the poles. They ended up stashing some extra insulators at the base of the poles for the taking, to keep the lines in service.

Headed out this morning. Will get there sometime Friday. When I get home in a couple weeks I'll try to post a picture. Not sure if my phone will handle such a smart task from the road.

Unfortunately, ended up having to cancel the entire trip due to family crisis. Fortunately, the crisis turned out to be only an over active imagination.

So instead I spend some 'more' time trying to knap. It's a challenge. Most hobbies I can take a little introduction and jump into intermediate level stuff. Not this, beginner, beginner, beginner...someday I would like to use my primitive stuff for hunting, but it looks to be a long way off. If I didn't have my compound and gun powder I'd starve to dead first.
