There are IDIOTS out there that will just flat out take anything that does not belong to them!

Larry_65 - welcome to Hunting Nut and God Bless.

You should be able to learn a thing or two from the guys over here, they are very knowledgeable and willing to share what they know and have learned over the years.

DS,

If the Armadillo cartridges are based off the 30-30 how does the .308 Armadillo differ? Is the shoulder blown forward eating up some of the neck length and then run at higher pressure? Some of the taper removed?

Azar,

the .308 Armadillo has a short neck with absolute minimum body taper and a 40 degree shoulder angle.

Pressures are held to a maximum limit of 40,000 psi., as per my pressure testing and load development. I consider 38,000 psi as a SAFE maximum pressure limit, without ever exceeding 40,000 psi under no circumstance.

how does that compare to a .307???? often thought when hearing guys are using a .22/243 (shikes you can almost see barrrel wear reading that) that a fella could use that reamer with .307 case in a break open..... but Im a sucker for rimmed cartridges at heart. a .22hp savage with .224 barrrel in break open is another dream to own...or a bakail single 7.62x39mm reamed to .303 brit....

Elvis,

the 307 Winchester and wildcats thereof, offer more velocity potential over that of my Armadillo line of cartridges based off the 30-30 case, because the 307 Winchester operates at a much higher pressure level, and cases are more than twice as thick in the critical web area.

One of my all time favorite 307 based cartridges is the 250 Savage Ackley Improved Rimmed. I have done hundreds of these over the years in the T/C Contender, by rechambering the 257 TCU. I ordered 10 barrels from the T/C Custom Shop, 15" Contender pistol barrels in 257 TCU, and rechambered all of the to the 250 Savage Ackley Improved Rimmed cartridge, and put them up for sale and sold all 10 of them in less than 24 hours! Guys out west wanted them for pronghorn antelope and prairie dogs. I heard back from all ten customers, and they were either shooting Nosler's 85 gr. Ballistic Tip @ 3,000 fps. or Sierra's 90 gr. B.T. - H.P. Game King @ 2,900 fps.. I saw many pronghorn antelope and piles of prairie dogs that were killed with those barrels over the years.

If any of my Armadillo cartridges are to be pushed to the upper limits, then 375 Winchester brass can be used, and pressures can be safely ran as high as 60,000 psi.. This means that the .22 Armadillo can and does exceed 4,000 fps. with 40 and 45 grain bullets!

The last Baikal I owned was a single shot 12 ga. trap model with a 30" vent rib barrel. I made a full bore diameter barrel and chambered it in 7X30 Waters, and permanently installed it inside that 12 ga. barrel. I left the shotgun barrel full length, but cut the 7mm barrel to 26". I scoped the gun and was finishing up load development one day, and a State Trooper that was watching me, told me that he just had to have this gun! After talking to him for a good hour or so, he left with my gun and I have been missing it ever since. At the time, he sent me a bunch of pictures of javelina's that he had killed in his home state of Texas, plus a VERY NICE 12 point whitetail.

Rimmed cartridges and single shots, they just belong together!

I guess one exception to that rule might be my wife's Contender Carbine in 7mm-204 as it is extremely accurate, and enough so that I cannot make myself change it to a rimmed cartridge.

well today I used my hefalump gun in anger for first time...and plurry MISSED!!! red hind at about 50 yards on run...my sighting system is in for upgrade I feel...head of pop rivit at rear and shotgun bead at front just isnt going to cut it. .45/70 barrel 25" long inside the 30" astra cyclope shotgun is really pleasant to shoot and relatively quiet. 60grns of home rolled BP is alot of fun....AR 2206 45grns is getting to serious level with 413grn cast projectiles.... lots of fun...but I missed.....very wet day in the bush but had a ball anyway, the 3 deer we jumped up were awesome to see,Meg behaved well, she told me they were there, and my good mate who didnt quite move quick enough for a shot enjoyed the day out...we have been trying for 6 years to get out together, finally happened and I think he is hooked.
