after three weeks of coughing my guts out,sore throat,two lots of antibiotics...that is looking like a VERY good option.

Best treatment for that affliction mate is...
1. Saltwater gargle for the sore throat
2. A bottle of Vine leaf extract, Echinacea and Zinc capsules from your local Chemist mate. It won’t kill the bug because it’s a virus, but it will treat the symptoms, making you feel heaps better.

If that doesn’t work...OP Rum...it’s a kill or cure remedy that believe it or not actually works.

Don't drink liquor when taking antibiotics unless your doctor says its OK.
I suppose you could also talk to your chemist (or pharmacist).

Vince you you fit right in with my household....we have all them sorts of potions about the place...Ive been doing the salt water gargle thing...going back to Doc for 3rd time tomorrow.....plurry tonsils are the suspect!!!!

Actually as uncomfortable as they are infected, they are doing there job.
There are as you are well aware some very persistent bugs out there, unless you also get a bacterial infection, the only fix is rest and time.

Yep, sounds horribly like tonsils mate. Not a good thing to have them removed at your age, but what must be must be. As a general rule, they won’t remove them unless you have had a number of serious attacks in the preceding 12 months. As Pete said, they are doing their job...your tonsils are the first barrier against many infections.

Aloy’s, it’s not just the Czech’s that use the alcohol “kill or cure” method mate. I first heard about this 50 years ago whilst living in the country Down Under. First you get 5oz of OP Rum, a bucket and get into bed. Drink the rum...the bucket is for obvious reasons, BLLEEUUCCHH...then sweat it out.

placebo effect maybe......but Im feeling better than a couple of days ago...definately on the mend.
