Shops specializing in varmint calling will have an array of anti-scent or cover sent items. In fact, there is an amazing variety available with a plethora of urines (for the real hard core caller) to a litany of herbs and botanical scents to items that promise no scent whatsoever. I've used some and they seem to help, my favorite being Sage or Fresh Earth. Still your medicine cabinet or your condiment section of the kitchen may have some good items that, in my experience, work equally well.
A dab of Bengay on the soles of the shoes will not only mask scent but actually be an attractant. Use sparingly. When setting up a stand, we will apply Bengay and settle in for about five minutes before calling. On several occassions we have had coyotes come sniffing before we even began the first call sequence. The olfactory ability of coyotes, canines, is amazing.
Dilute vanilla extract 1:40 with water. Place in spray bottle and lightly spray the stand area. Whether this entices or masks is open to question but it seems very effective when calling to a moderate downwind.
Human clothing and the bodies inside plain stinks to coyotes, IMO. We store our calling clothes with sprigs of sage or juniper in garbage bags. We put the calling clothes on as we arrive at the first stand. Good results. We use nonscent deodorant, too.
Skunk oil can be another very effective masking option. Use sparingly and never on the clothes you are wearing. Use sparingly. Use sparingly.
So, whatca using when calling OR do you think this is not needed?

I use my left over deer attractants if I have any, and fox pee. The stuff you are describing seems to be Vanilakilla made for Dan Fitzgerald.

IMO, scents are not needed. Let's face it, you cannot mask your scent well enough to hide it from a predator. Setup is more important.
On the other hand though certain scents can be used like a decoy. As an attention getter or just to peak the animals curiosity.Placed cross wind of your position they can get that circling animal to stop and sniff a bit or perhaps to follow that scent to satisfy it's curiosity. But the only time I would use coyote urine is during mating season because it might spook a young of year coyote.
You should see the evidence from dispersal in some areas around here. I have seen a lot of dead coyotes that did not meet a bullet but other coyotes. One was spread out over the length of a football field. Not a piece left bigger than 3 inches. They are very terrritorial and coyote urine used at the right time and place will work on the older animals.L.O.
