What is the biggest animal that you have taken with the smallest caliber?
I have heard of 6-point elk taken with 25-06, and also that most guides carried 243 Win in the olden times. As well as a 3 year old Buffalo taken with a 204 Ruger.
These are reputable people, as far as I am concerned.
What's yours?

Is there a statute of limitations on illegal hunting?
If it is ten years or less then I could give you story about a 22lr 10/22 and a mule deer that was neither legal nor reputable.
I also know an Airforce survival instructor who killed a whitetail with a military issue survival knife. Neither of these incidents involved trapping or baiting the animal. They both involved stealthy hunting skills and a need for the food.

I got a crow once with 22 birdshot from a S&W revolver at treetop range. About 35 feet.

How about the smallest with the smallest?
Shot a bumblebee in flight, directly overhead, with a 177 caliber scoped pellet rifle. Seperated his head from his thorax. Found both parts on the ground. Witnesses to prove it! I put the gun down, said "Next", and walked over and sat down at the picnic table. LOL
No way in H*#@ I'm trying for a follow up to that one. LOL

The statute of limitations ran out on this one many years ago. Buck antelope from 25 yds. shot in the ear hole with a 22 lr. He dropped instantly. I was hiding in a hay stack and ambushed him.

A big "sharpe" dog chasing our sheep, shot at it to scare it off with my .177 bb gun as it ran past... bb entered between 2 ribs entering the heart killing it deader than a doornail.
Beyond that my dad will *only* hunt mule deer with a .22-250. I've seen him kill countless ones and truely cant think of one that ever got away. Following in his footsteps I grew up hunting with a .22-250 as well, shot alot of mule deer with it but I stepped up to a .270 I later bought for hunting.
Did Caribou with a .243 as well... the noslers went in one side and out the other, full complete penetration so I couldnt in good faith say we were undergunned at all.

Last year I saw a moose being tagged that was taken down by a 243 Win. It was shot by a 13-14 year old boy while his father stood by with a 30-06. The moose was a bull that went 890 lbs+.

Grandfather shot a 280# Whitetailed 10 point buck with 25-20 single shot rifle in 1948. black powder loads.....
Friend of mine went hunting in Colorado for Elk with a 243 winchester. He killed a 4X4 with one shot.

in meat plants, i belive they kill them big cows with a 22 caliber that shoots a rod out so far then goes back in for re-use.
I am not sure , for I have never seen it done. just heard poeple talk about it.
I think they hit it behind the ear some where. and it drops them dead.
a 22 caliber is more deadly than what poeple think.
I was out on a farm and seen some one take a 270 , shot a bull right between the eyes , the bull just stood there bleeding. he realoaded shot it again between the eyes, the bull dropped, then got back up and started walking around. it was shot again.
have never seen that happend before. I sugested them to use a 22 and shoot it behind the ear next time.. lol.

The proper place to shoot a cow(or bull) and where the butcher shop uses the knocking gun is in middle of forehead.Draw a imaginary line from base of right ear to left eye and base of left ear to right eye.Where the lines cross is your target. If they are standing with head down a shot directly between eyes will just go through sinuses below brain.

One of my own was a friend's pigs. I had a NEF 17 HMR and had seen a couple of animals perish with it. I told my buddy that I would help him butcher them, I shot the first dead in the eye and the thing went nuts. 2 rounds of 17 HMR, 5 rounds of 22 LR from a Ruger Single Six and a round of 30-06 got it down.......the next pig got the '06 and I stayed to help him skin and gut the 2 pigs out of guilt......and the promise of some side bacon, I got none....

My grandfather had one rifle on the farm, a Remington 510 single shot 22. Everything parished in front of that rifle and 22 shorts. Deer, coons, gators, pigs, cows, bobcats, chickens, etc. The funny thing is I never saw or heard tell of him taking a second shot. I do know he killed two 35 pound bobcats at one time, while they were fighting in the edge of the pasture. He saw the cows gathered up in a semicircle and just walked up to see what was going on. He shot one cat, the other grabbed the dead one by the neck, growling, and then he joined his opponet in the happy hunting grounds when the next round was bolted up. Two big bobcats, two rounds.

is this really the site to brag about taking game illegally even if the statute of limitations has ran out.
shouldnt we be above not only illegally killing game but bragging "welp they kant persecute me no` more so i admit to illegally killing a big foot with a pea shooter."
kinda proves all the bad things anti gun people are saying about us doesnt it?

Where does respect for the law and feeding a hungry family find enough conflict to bother about? Iguess we could have stolen food from the local stores - but that would have taken food away from the guy that owned the store.

its one thing to feed your family any way you can.
its another to brag about it on a site dedicated to hunters and hunting.
