Ok, this uber cool Forum software has the ability to define "ranks" according to peoples post numbers. Right now its pretty much set to Newbie for everyone.

I'd like suggestions on what to call people with say 0-10 posts, 10-50, 50-100, 100-500 etc etc. Ranges can be set to whatever, titles per range can be set to whatever.

We could for example call someone a "spike" in the lowest tier, 2pt, 3pt, 4pt etc etc for subsequent ranks... or we could use some other metaphore thats not deer related to describe the ranks.

I want to set something up soon... just wondering if anyone had suggestions / preferences.

I think a ranking system by number of posts is a good idea. Admittedly, I wasn't too thrilled at dropping from 396, during this new cutover, but I guess it can't be helped. There's a lot of things we could try. Some of the other sites have given names to the different levels of contributor. We might get some ideas there. We could even start and progress through something simple, like the metals: lead, zinc, copper, silver, gold, platinum etc...although that's certainly not firearms related. How about working our way up through the animals like squirrel, rabbit, fox, coyote, wolf, deer, elk, moose etc. That doesn't seem to be what we're looking for either. I'll think about it tonight as I'm sure some others will. Best wishes.

Ha! I knew you would... but heres the argument: Western or Eastern count? Twisted Evil

My wife suggested animal names starting with varmints like Squirrel, followed by higher ranks like Coyote, Deer, Elk, Moose etc.

I think you would probably be better off with the eastern count due to the fact that they count more points, thus allowing for more steps in the ranking process.
I also like the idea your wife had. Just dont start me out as a Rat or something :).

This is merely a basic starting point for thought. You could use the military ranks. You'd get about 9 each for the enlisted grades and another 9 or so for the officer ranks. How about naval vessels? You could run up from frigate all the way to the battleships and carriers. How many divisions (ranks) do you feel are needed? I'm guessing about 9 or so. This could be a fun project! Best wishes.

Hey Dallen,
So whats the verdict? Have you decided what to go with on the ranks yet? Not that its gonna matter for a most of us newbies, but I would like to see what you finally came up with. It sound like most people are going with the critters. Sounds good to me.
