7.62X54R Black Powder Load

Hi forum,

I am new here, and I am searching for a Black Powder load for the 7.62X54R. Does anyone have some tips ?

I know, a strange question. My problem: I am member of a muzzle loading club ( sorry, no hunter ) and found ( in the internet ) that early 7.62X54R had a black powder load. That means that I could use my Mosin Nagant Rifle for the black powder events if I knew what to load.

Black powder in FFG or FFFG can be loaded in bulk into a 7.62X54R to nearly fill the case and propel a 150 grain bullet. The only concern might be the clean up later since black powder is corrosive. I would recommend using hot soapy water patches, hot water patches, dry patches and oil patches. Just like cleaning a muzzleloader. All the best...

You could also use black powder substitutes like CleanShot and Clear Shot that do not leave corrosive fouling in the barrel. The exact load I could not recommend but the two products are 'volume equivalent' to black powder.
One thing for sure, if you use black powder you will have to disassemble the rifle and take it to the shower with you. Not worth it to me but it's your rifle. Wink
