If whoever squeezed that trigger got away uninjured it's a miracle. I'm with Bushy, overload on the powder. I'm thinking too that repetitive overloads would have caused stress cracks starting inside the chamber until--this. But, I guess none of us can say for sure. Keep us posted Dallan.

Don't know about anything else, but I reckon that living through this accident would be enough to stop him farting in Church. Very Happy Very Happy

I remember many years ago I visited a range here in Brisbane and they had a 12g shottie on a plaque on the wall that was split down one side of the chamber for about 18"-10"....looked like it had ripped open and been almost hammered flat. The story that went with it said that the guy had run out of his usual powder so he grabbed a can of another powder he had....loaded with the amount he would normally use of the other powder (they didn't say what the two powders were), and because he had also run out of shot filled the case with lead fishing sinkers. He survived but with some pretty horrific injuries.

Hope this guy survived okay....it is one of the nastier accidents I have seen.

Cheers, Vince

I note a refrence to R#7 in a related detonation. Speaking from experiance and having read several other R#7 stories, a common error, a disaster in the waiting to happen department, is having AA#7 and R#7 on the same shelf. Several times folks have reached for the wrong can of #7. After my experiance, I keep the cans on a seperate shelf at opposite ends to make very sure I never pick up the wrong can again.

I also would suspect a powder error, not an over charge but a replacement. Switching #7s could definately destroy a gun as pictured.

That's why when I'm reloading, the only powder on the bench is the powder I'm using. Smile

Well I can honestly say that I would look more in the powder/bullet department but the idea of a poor conversion could be plausible.

I had stuffed in over 19gr heck maybe even more than 20gr, HS6 behind a 250gr lead hard cast and it took out my .45 Blackhawk (see my topic post) this was way way off not because of a wrong powder but because a scale shifting and I did not realize it shifted and loaded alot more than what I wanted(14gr is what I wanted). Not something I will ever again allow to happen! Took me over a month to get my head straight before I even resized a case, much less built a load. This is the kind of thng that can and does cause folks to give up the shooting sports.

If you see it happen you will, NEVER AGAIN BE WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GEAR!! And I will probably even go so far as to have it on when I am in the field as well. Again read my topic post about my Blackhawk dying you will pretty much read how horible I felt about it. And Yeah the guy that touched off the rounds spent some time on bended knees. Arron
