Dave, never a truer word was spoken mate.
A gun is an inanimate object....it has no brain; it is incapable of thinking; is incapable of hating; of feeling or displaying racism; of feeling any emotion.......it is a tool, something that MAN can use for any number of reasons.....unfortunately some of them anti-social, and these are the only ones the antis see and react to.

Pennsyltucky...HAHAHAHA. I haven't heard that one in years.
One would think that in a state the size of Pa. with more than a million deer hunters the sponsors of this bills ears would still be ringing from the opposition to it.
Kinda scary though, as I'm only 20 miles fromt he Pa/Ohio line, and politicians in THIS state are guilty of monkey see/monkey do politics. I don't think they've had an original thought since the CCW laws were passed.

Hey Joe, not being a native of Ohio I can see that there are some really screwed up laws especially where ccw's and hunting is concerned. There are very few in politics that know what they're talking about. They're only concerned with what will line thier pockets and not what is right for the people. It seems to me that they're all a bunch of throw-backs from the flower children of the 60's.
Like I've said before, if a person wants to kill another they'll find a way to git-r-done. Even if they have to revert back to the ways of the caveman. The idiots in charge don't seem to realize that. Taking away our guns (and that's what registration leads to) will only make it easier for the criminals to do whatever they feel because they won't be affraid of a law abiding citizen carrying a gun.
Pa., you guys better stand up and shout that you've had enough.

Don't get me wrong, other than the shotgun restrictions in Ohio I think the DOW does a good job. They're changing the "urban deer permit" to an "anterless" permit this year which will allow increased harvest in the first 1/2 of the bow season. My real issue in this state is with clueless politicians that insist on gun registration. As stated in other strings, NOTHING burns me up more than Gov't control of innanimate objects that are used as TOOLS by unlawful individuals. It makes NO sense to me to take something away from John Q. Public just because Jim S. CROOK uses it to commit a crime.
GET TO THE ROCK.......

Hey Joe, the one thing that really bugs me about the deer hunting laws is the fact that you can't use centerfire rifles, anywhere. I don't know if you've ever hunted down here or not but there are alot of places where you could safely use a centerfire. The other deer law that bugs me is the firearm season. Most people that work can't always take that time off and there's only one weekend during the season.
Don't hold it against me but, I'm originaly from Michigan and I'm used to hunting with a rifle. I'm also used to the season there which always starts on the 15th of nov. no matter what day it falls on and goes through the 30th.
The ccw laws are a whole other matter. They need to have one law for the whole state, not county to county or city to city.
There are too many bleedin hearts out here trying to run this country into the ground. Like you said, clueless politicians combined with the mindless idiots that believe the BS that they're trying to feed them. The biggest problem is that there are too many gun owners that aren't speaking up and too many people listening to the anti's.

I've hunted deer in Ohio my whole life and until I hunted the "Early" muzzleloader season @ Salt Fork last year I never understood the "short range" weapon restrictions. That place was a MADHOUSE. I couldn't walk more than 75 yards without seeing someone in orange, and I didn't get INTO the woods 'till shortly after noon. One older gentleman I ran into told me it is like that every opening day, and it clears out quickly. Seems the locals only request that morning off work, and most return to work by 1:00.
Other than extreme cases like Salt Fork, I have NEVER seen a study that shows "shotgun only" states being safer for hunters.I agree that MOST of the state has enough acreage that centerfire rifles COULD be used safely. But you need to understand that many of of the hunting laws in Ohio are based on tradition. (Hell --Sunday hunting was illegal until 2001, and to this day, Crow hunting restrictions [Friday, Saturday, and Sunday hunting only]are based on an agreement between the US and Mexico to NOT kill the birds in a settlement of the Mexican-American War) We've always been a "shotgun only" state. Opening Day has always been the Monday after Thanksgiving.(Call my boss tomorrow and ask him when my vacation is scheduled---he knows I wont be around that week)
Where the ODOW HAS done a great job, at least in my opinioin, is in allowing weapons like the crossbow, with NO RESTRICTIONS on who uses it. Also, Muzzleloading Rifles, which USED to be classified as "primitive" weapons, can be used during any of the open deer gun seasons. My TC Encore is capable of, IF I do my part, effective kills out to 200 yards. On the few occasions I've hunted outside of the state, I've never had occasion to attempt a shot longer than that. So having NOT really had the need for longer shots, I won't lament the lack of oppurtunity to take them. Besides, I'm just starting to develop loads for my rifles that WILL be effective at centerfire rifle range. I will, however, be looking for a place to "TEST" my loads once shooting paper targets has confirmed that further "testing" is necessary.
I fear that discussions of specific laws pertaining to hunting in the "Great State of Ohio" will be boring to someone following this thread. As such, unless asked to continue this discussion in public, please pm me and I will be happy to discuss Ohio hunting that way..

Don't just TALK!!! Become active and informed, and vote the B*ST*RDS out!
Be concise, above all, be polite, but don't ask for their vote, demand it!
I know, legislators don't like to be talked to like they work for us, or something radical like that, but guess what? They DO!
If we do nothing, we get the government we deserve.
