Hi there, I am new to this forum and so far think it's great. I am looking for a good 204 something that has a high degree of accuracy. What do yo think of the CZ Varmint ?

Personally, I do not own a 204 or CZ rifle. From what I have read both seem to be good choices for varmints.

To get more replies, you may want to ask that question in the firearms section or on the general Varmint foum itself. Smile

So now we have a new forum for the red misters, allright!

I do Crows and Turtles. Yep, a turtle is a preditor in a stocked fish pond and most pond owners are happy to see them put on the deceased list. You just have to be real careful about your backstop and backdrop.

My Crow gun is a 22-250 AI fast twist (1-7) gun built on a Rem 700 BDL action with a Lothar WAlther SS match barrel, HS Precision stock, Kipplinger single set trigger, The chrome molly action was blueprinted, squared and the threads cut .010 oversized, then hard chromed to match the barrel. The gun sports an 8x34 Hakko Scope and Harris Bipod. Longest crow shot 384 yards. 75 gr Hornady Amax over 38 gr H-4350.

My turtle gun is a Ruger #1 in 218 Bee with a free floated factory barrel. The gun sports a 6x24 Hakko scope. This is a head shot only gun, groups at .146 Longest shot 154 yards. Load is a Berger 35 gr SP over 15 gr of H-4227.

I also shoot crows with a Beretta 391 over decoys, using a crow call CD that I made from crow calls I found the the net. Just copied the file, downloaded it, arranged several files and burned a CD, one boom box later and we got black feathers drifting down.

Hope we get a bunch of V & P shooters.
Ed

Hello from Alberta Canada. First post here, I'm not new to shooting but did buy a couple of new rifles this year as well as take my .22 semi I bought 21 years ago to nuke gophers.
I bought a Ruger M77 MkII *target* in .204...it weighs almost 10 lbs so I use a versapod bi-pod along with a bushnell elite 3200 4x12x40 scope. This cartridge really "Godsmacks" prairie poodles HARD! Haven't got the hang of the 300+ yrd shots yet but it will come. Most have been at about 175 to 200 yrds.
I just picked up a 10/22 carbine that I outfitted with the Volquartzen "Hi-Perf-Trigger and hicap mags for the upcoming season Very Happy
Bring on those sabretoothed varmints.

Also, does anyone know where I can pick up or order Tee-shirts with this fun sport as a logo on it?

Gidday Rick65Cat. Welcome to the worst kept secret on the net mate. Grab a brew, pull up a stump and sit awhile. Feel free to jimp in with your 10c worth anytime.

I'd love to be able to go PD hunting, but we don't have them here in Australia so I'll just have to settle for rabbits. I don't want to "blow them up" or turn them into "red mist" cause thay are good eating, so I stick to my .22 rimfire.

As for a T-shirt.....design your own mate. Once you have a design you can put it onto a inkjet printable transfer and iron it on, or you can go all out and take your design to a screen printer and get him to knock up a few for you. Start a club/group/trend, you might find a bit of a market for them. Thats what we did for our pistol shooting team and we were able to keep the price under AUD$25 including screen printing.

Cheers, Vince

Yeah, I like using a .22 as well. Keeps the ammo costs waaaay down. I buy my .22 ammo by the case. Remington "Cyclone" HP $165 Cdn for 5000 rnds. I have 3 semis I have to feed. Well...one that I ALWAYS use, and I just bought a 10/22 for the upcoming year. The one I always use is 21 yrs old now and they aren`t made anymore. (phillipino manufactured) and parts would be hard to find. The 10/22 will be my backup. The 3rd semi is a cooey mod. 64b. I was trying to sell it but couldn`t get my asking price. (prolly too high lol)
I really love the .204 but its almost a buck a shot for the Hornady 32gr Vmax. GOTTA get into reloading I suppose
I hooked up with a few local guys from the web, and they took me to their feilds they use...(35,000 private acres of various farms) and in one day between 5 of us we probably shot 6 to 700 p-dogs. I know I took over a 100 myself. About 20 with the .204
Gotta love this sport. hehehe

What .224" bullets are folks using for coyotes? I have .220 Swift and a few .223s I plan to use. I'm tinkering with an AR-15, DPMS "Lo Pro CLassic" as a short to medium range varminter. 1.5 - 6X Bushnell Elite scope. So far my handloads are troublesome (mostly due to trying to load with a "night shift brain"...) but one load using a 63 grain Sierra SMP put four rounds into 0.56" at 100 yards, with a called flyer opening the group to 1.1". If I can get over my feeding glitches it may be my most accurate rifle yet!

I'm hearing that eastern coyotes are heavier than their western kin, up to 70 lbs in some places. A local guy told me he's seen 50 pounders. Therefore I'm looking at heavier bullets, 60 grain and up. Any suggestions?
