Anyone have any ideas on riding a house of Yellow Jackets? I have been house hunting for my son and came across a real nice house that's been vacant for a year or so, Bank Foreclosure, I found that some Wasps have made this their new home, I found about 500 dead yellow jackets in the master bedroom. After further searching I can see where there is a partial nest in the corner of the closet up by the ceiling. There might be a hole through the drywall into the attic. I haven't been able to go into the attic yet, but before he makes an offer on this house I will. Just wondering if anyone has ever had this problem and how did you take care of it?

Best thing that I have figured on yellow jackets is to kill'em Glockman.
You could live trap them, but killing them would be my answer.

Try some of those bug bombs from raid. I have used them on a lot of differant occasions, and they work great. Here's a link:

The good thing this time of the year up here is the cold weather, and the heat is off in this house, been winterized as well. It just creeps ya out a bit to think of that many in this house. How did they get in? Is there a Big nest in the attic? If so do they servive the winter and will hatch in the warmer weather, or when the heat is back on? If he decides to bid on this house I'll have to go up in the attic and see if I can figure where they got in. The house isn't that old..1998.

Sevin (spelling?) dust sprinkled in the entrance to the nest will work but only if they are active. They'll track it all through the nest, killing everything.

I think I'd require the seller to pay for a professional pest control company to get rid of them, unless the house is such a deal that you feel its worth paying for yourself.

Now you could trying picking them off one by one with a .22 Hornet or .218 Bee... Wink

The seller is a bank, foreclosure, usually they don't want to do squat,( an as is type of deal) they are losing a lot of money already. and the price is very good. I don't have a problem taking care of this myself, just wanted some suggestions. Thanks

Glockman, this is obviously off topic but where are you in MI? Just curious because I have relatives in the UP, near Negaunee.

I like the direct and quick approach to pest control myself. Chemicals are the way to go, Raid, Break Cleaner, WD40 (or any other petroleum product) and the like will kill Yellow Jackets. Smile

Give the raid bombs a chance........I'd help you with them, but I'm allergic to bees. Same as Pumpkinslinger said, where in MI are you? I'm in Big Rapids.

Bushy, how long you had that? I got one when I was around 8, no scope. My Dad has it hanging up in his Gun Shop. He still won't give it back to me after I shot the neighbor kid in the eye, in a good old fashion Barn hay loft BB gun fight. Sad

Not all that long. It's my daughter's and she's 36. The one you might really be interested in is my uncle's Daisy BB gun. It's a single shot muzzle loader. And it is old. Hang on. I'll take a photo of it...

Yup...Though I don't use it anymore for obvious reasons. What you do to load it is to drop a BB down the muzzle and then lever the gun and you are ready to go.
