In case any members here don't get NRA publications:

On the Second Amendment, Don’t Believe Obama!

Friday, June 06, 2008

The presidential primary season is finally over, and it is now time for gun owners to take a careful look at just where apparent nominee Barack Obama stands on issues related to the Second Amendment. During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for “sportsmen” or unfounded claims of general support for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties. Don’t listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.

FACT: Barack Obama voted to allow reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms industry.

FACT: Barack Obama wants to re-impose the failed and discredited Clinton Gun Ban.

FACT: Barack Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.

FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership.

FACT: Barack Obama supports local gun bans in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and other cities.

FACT: Barack Obama voted to uphold local gun bans and the criminal prosecution of people who use firearms in self-defense.

FACT: Barack Obama supports requiring law-abiding gun owners to register their firearms.

FACT: Barack Obama refused to sign a friend-of-the-court brief in support of individual Second Amendment rights in the Heller case.

FACT: Barack Obama wants to eliminate your Right to Carry.

FACT: Barack Obama was a member of the Board of Directors of the Joyce Foundation, the leading source of funds for anti-gun organizations and “research.”

FACT: Barack Obama supported a proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school or park, which would eliminate almost every gun store in America.

FACT: Barack Obama voted not to notify gun owners when the state of Illinois did records searches on them.

FACT: Barack Obama voted against a measure to lower the Firearms Owners Identification card age minimum from 21 to 18, a measure designed to assist young people in the military.

FACT: Barack Obama favors a ban on standard capacity magazines.

FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory micro-stamping.

FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory waiting periods.

FACT: Barack Obama supports repeal of the Tiahrt Amendment, which prohibits information on gun traces collected by the BATFE from being used in reckless lawsuits against firearm dealers and manufacturers.

FACT: Barack Obama supports “one-gun-a-month” sales restrictions.

FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on inexpensive handguns.

FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on the resale of police issued firearms, even if the money is going to police departments for replacement equipment.

FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory firearm training requirements for all gun owners and a ban on gun ownership for persons under the age of 21.

OB says he "supports" the Second but with 'common sense" gun laws. That's liberal code for planning to take those nasty ol' guns out of the hands of common honest folk but not criminals.

OB, et al, as lawers, know the "Supreme" Court long ago ruled that it is illegal to prosecute people with actual criminal records for not registering their illegally owned guns because that would require them to incriminate themselves. They ruled that the Fifth Ammendment says the criminals can't be required to register their illegal guns but the Court also said their ruling does NOT extend to protect honest people from being compelled to register legally owned guns!

OB is a far left, BIG government/HIGH tax bubble head. As President he would be a disaster for gun owners AND equally so for the rest of the nation!

I believe that's called "pissing in the wind." I realized that I'd never even heard of the Libertarian candidate (I had confused Barr with Paul), had to look him up. Seems that most people haven't heard of him. I did read that his campaign is a net drain on Republicans. Vote your conscience and welcome President Obama to the White House. I’m sure he’ll respect your gun rights…

Just my opinion.

I'm afraid, Paul, that I have to agree with Pumpkinslinger. A vote for a lesser party, no matter how good it is, is a lost vote....

I have a question on Barr, and for once I don't want to sound like a jerk on this. Shocked

A long time ago, when he was in Congress, I remember that he was one great Conservative. Pro Gun, Pro Life, Etc.

But, is Barr the guy that got involved in a Male, Page scandal, or am I mistaking him for someone else.

Again, I don't mean to be "flip" on this one, but I have been wondering about this, sense he came back into the spotlight.

Paul,

I too, have to agree with PKS and Bushy. We have to do everything in our power, which sometimes is limited (to voting), to protect our right to bear arms. Although we all don't like McCain, he will protect our gun rights.

Note: I used the proper term "bear" arms (a verb meaning to carry). I believe it should be "bare" (a verb meaning to show or display, as apposed to concealed carry).

Help us out there Paul, every vote counts.

Cary

Well, there are already some senators that were voted in.
I guess if you are happy with what the two party system has done to you over the last 70 years then keep voting them in.
If you aren't happy with what they have done to you then vote them out!
All it takes is a majority and I don't know many people who are happy with what we have had. If all the people who are unhappy it won't be a "lesser" party - it will be the winning party.

On an informational note:
The senators make the laws - they introduce them, pass them to the house who modifies or passes them on to the president. All the president does is either vote yes or no. Then if there are enough votes the president's veto can be over ridden. Pay attention to your choices for the Senate more than the president. Like I said - I don't like what the two parties have done to us - to me - and I will be voting them out.

Paul,

I agree with your comments about the senators. We (conservatives) should be pushing to elect conservatives to the House of Representatives and the Senate. This is where the money is spent and taxes raised. The president only has influence over this process by threatening a veto, until a bill is placed on his desk. The majority party in both houses elects a speaker of each house. This person controls what is brought to the floor for discussion. This is where a majority of each house is a key element in controlling everything that goes on in Washington. They are probably the most powerful person up there. Pay attention to the person you send up there, as your representative.
