I remember when I just went out to the west 40 by the lateral and shot a deer for the freezer, shot a gunnysack of cottontails and hunted elk in the Yellowjacket area all with a hunting license. Now you wait years and do all kind of things just to have a chance to hunt. I think that and the idiots that are out there now is why I quit hunting. Now that I am retired I may pick it back up, but I know I will get fustrated quick with all the loops and laws.

In Mass you don't have antelope or elk.

I don't necessarily agree with all issues around the drawing of licenses in CO but it does have its merits. If you know how to play the system you can draw frequently and hunt every year. I have done that for many years and with only a very few exceptions been 'drawn'. What makes it most difficult is the number of applicants that the "best" areas attract. Those of us that grew up in the middle of CO know that the "best" is not always the "best".

This year should be a pretty good year for me here in British Columbia. As always I can take my 3 deer over the entire season. No shortage of Mule deer around here, I have picyures of bucks in my backyard.. Wink

Now, there are regular Moose openings around, but most of the moose hunting here is by limited entry draws too. After several years since my last, I finally got a draw, a shared hunt with my buddy and his wife. How this works is we all got the draw and between the three of us, we can take two bull moose. Nov 1-15 is our draw time. A little late, post rutt and all, but when I was late season deer hunting in the unit we got our draw last year, I saw several very nice bulls. Fingers crossed it will be the same this year...

I hope everyone has a fun and very safe year. Good luck to everyone in the coming season!

The tag issue is pretty crazy. Growing up in Wyoming it seemed like they just gave antelope tags away - Red Desert was always a tough one to get, but most other places were pretty easy for buck tags. Here in CO, for me to hunt GMU #3 where they have some pretty nice antelope bucks, it takes over 10 years to accumulate enough preference points to meet the standard for selection unless you get a private land tag - they are fun to hunt but I don't enjoy the meat enough to wait 10 years, deer and elk taste better to me anyway. skb is right, you get to know the good areas that aren't as publicized and life is good! All I know is that this season has got to better than my fiasco last year.
