Here are 2 pics of my knew knifes I purchased at Smokey Mountain knife works. There decent knifes for the money, Yep there the cheap ones since I have a bad problem of loosing the ones I put in my pocket and get so mad at myself when I find out I have lost a good expensive knife so I went o buying the cheaper ones and now its a habit to get a off name one that still has some good quality to it.
Top to bottom:

1. Elk Ridge brand name, just like it so its in my collection. (2 blades)
2. Elk Ridge brand name, I love the walnut color on the bone. (3 blades)
3. Barking Dog, brand name, just a good cheap one, ( single blade)
4. Rough Rider, I just really like this brand name, (3 blade)
5. Winchester brand name, Cheap walmart buy, but the handle reminds me of a knife I had as a child.

Nice collection Duce...although I notice that there isn't an Old Timer (Schrade) amongst them.

You have a very good, useful array of blade types there mate. There wouldn't be a critter in the country that you couldn't make a "coupla stones" lighter with them. Very Happy Laughing

Any man who works on the land would/should be happy with those knives mate.

Cheers, Vince

I've carried at least one pocket knife as long as I can remember. These days I always have a Leatherman Micra with me. At work I also carry a Leatherman Super Tool, along with an LED flashlight. When I'm not at home I carry a CRKT folder too. The CRKT is really for "social occassions" but I use the Leathermans all the time.

Duce....you need to attach you knife to yourself mate. Either a wrist strap or a simple cord to the pouch.

I have knives that I carried 25 years ago in the Army and I always had them attached with a cord to my basic pouch. That way you know that they will be there when you really desperately need them. Very Happy Very Happy

ok vince i gotta ask, how would you use it since i figure the lanyard was short, i usually use my knives for GP general purpose, and a short lanyard would not do it, and a long one well i may hang myself with it...
was it a quick detach or something

or are we talking the butter knife at the mess hall was tied to your pouch? hehehhe

Either a short lanyard that goes around my wrist, or a long one with a loop in the end for attaching to my webbing....just remove it to use, or you can leave it one...then make sure you loop it back on.

Mess hall knives....they wouldn't let me near them mate...I had to use my fingers and teefs.

Cheers, Vince

Ah Vince- ya bring back some memories with that Old Timer.

Hadda 2-blade, could'nt of been longer than 3" closed...used it for all kinda of stuff, including cutting bialing string when feeding stock. I lost that knife, and found it, many times- I'd loose, then find it then lose then find it- most of the time it ended up in the trough after the alfalfa was gobbled up.

Darn surprised something never ate it and I found it cleaning stables!

Finally lost if for good...Miss that lil thing...it was old when I got it.

*

Still got a multi-blade/function Victorinox I got as a gift in highschool from a teacher/mentor I was I tight with...the blades have some engraving on it....his name on the large one and "TEXAN" on the other. That was back in the '70's...still use it daily and it's in the glove box of my pickup.

Gettin lazy now...carry is a folding S/W SOG semi-serrated.

Good thread- aint thought about long lost blades in a long time!

Oh there are so many that come to mind! Right now I am carrying a Victorinox multi-tool(pocket knife) and almost always a Wenger multi-tool(pocket knife) and either a CRKT M18-04 or 03 I think folder or a CRKT M16-03 folder that I got from a friend recently who is heading out for a second deployment to the "Stan" as he calls it. However if I am going the drug store to pick up some class four or five painkillers for Cathy I will slip in my Cold Steel KOBUN in warm WX and if it is bit cooler I will have a really neat item called a 10mm Glock G29 in a SERPA. HE HE HE! If I am hunting I carry a SOG SEAL Pup. I have a host of cutting tools and I have found that if you want a good useable pocket knife then get a Victorinox Classic it will do just about anything most folks would ever need done or go up to the Sportsman series. The newest design I have seen that I REALLY like is the BIG ROCK non-serrated blade from Gerber. The 400 series steel they use is easy to touch up as is the AUS8's CRKT likes to use if you know what you are doing. It has taken me about 20 years to REALLY know how to sharpen an edge correctly. Thank you GATCO and Lansky. I have lost so many that I cannot remember them all and a few I have passed on to others and I hope they served thier new owners well. A knife is only true so long as the user is true to it, like most any tool.
