45 long colt and herco powder

im looking for a herco powder 45 long colt pistol load. i have a new chrony but havent loaded pistol ammo yet ever. any suggestions on a starting load or max load.

astra 45 long colt

once fired winchester brass
herco powder
250 grain XTP bullets

im guessing about 7 grains to start and 9 grains max.

Noslers # 3 manual has the following for 45 long colt.

HERCO
starting 7.1 grains. max 8.1 grains.
Thats with a 250gr hollow point Winchester brass and a rem 2 1/2 primer

thanks ever so much.

that tells me more than i knew to start.

ive reloaded shotgun shells for 10 years and 303 enfield shells about 6 months.

i have 10 pounds of herco powder i would like to use up in my pistol since i dont shotgun shoot as much any more.

1000 rounds per can of herco will really make me smell smoke for a long time.

Listed below is a page from the Alliant website at www.alliantpowder.com and these are maximum loads. Herco is listed as 9.0 grains for a 250 grain bullet. Speer reloading manuals have a bunch of .45 Colt loads using Herco powder. All the best...
