I appreciate all of the tips, suggestions and threats
Work up this morning and the bleeding was stopped and I was able to get a good look at it. It looks pretty ugly but its not as bad as I thought. Oddly this really hasnt hurt much at all... until I get water on it, which makes it sting so bad my whole arm aches.
I'll keep an eye on it for infections... I'm one of those guys who's body doesnt quite know what to do with itself if its not healing something somewhere. Earlier this year I sliced a chunk off the side off my index finger about the size of a dime, folded it back in place and wrapped it up good and it healed up fine after a couple weeks.
I grew up on a farm and am fairly indifferent to self-injurys... much to the dismay of my wife. The only thing that really knocks me on my butt is kidney stones... lord have mercy those are BAD.

Someone once told me that the three worst pains a feller could have were a toothache, a gall stone and a kidney stone. All I can add is "YES!!"
My daughter the medical assistant told me that hydrogen pyroxide is OK for initially cleaning a wound but should not be used after that because it does kill cells, slowing the healing.

Hey Bushy,
Ben is heading to Stuttgart this week for the World's in Duck Calling.
I guess that the competition is on Saturday.
If you live close enough, head on over to watch these guys blow their brains out with the calls.
I decided to stay home because of Thanksgiving.
I have always said that a guy should be at the families' table during the Holidays, and I figure that I have to set an example to the kids on this one.
Also I feel that it would make me a hypocrite to leave because I have always preached this.
I regards to Dallan bleeding out, if "Mr. Cut" was raised on a farm, I can see his problem.
I have yet to see a farmer who doesn't have his personal coffee cup at the hospital.
Eric

This probably should be under "Folk Medicine" or "Old Mechanic Myths". I owned a motorcycle shop for too many years and, of course, cuts and bleeding go with the job. Our solution (adopted from a forty year mechanic) was to wash out the cut with battery acid and put Super Glue over the cut until proper attention could be given if needed. What I found amazing is that those cuts and wounds healed far faster than using conventional medical proceedures and reduced subsequent seepage. As a matter of course, we all had updated tetnus shots. Last Friday I was shaving with my straight razor which slipped and cut into the index finger to the bone when I foolishly grabbed for it (those razors can be expensive!), so, off to the shop, draw some acid, apply, shriek loudly and dance for a few minutes, Super Glue and wait for the throbbing to stop.
My doctor finds this process "unique" but effective. I hope I don't have to demonstrate it too often to him. Battery acid kills any bacteria or nasties and has an astringent effect on blood flow. Super Glue keeps the cut from opening up. Works for me.

Battery acid?!?! I think I'll stick with the hydrogen peroxide!!
I have heard of using Super Glue on cuts. Am I wrong or do they now use similar adhesives in surgery?

I had a support break and a deer that I was skinning came crashing down and tried to cut off my hand, a few years ago. We went directly to the emergency room to get fixed up. I still recommend this as proper procedure, but my wife could have sewn me up better than the chump in ER!!!!!! The med tech from the ambulance crew seemed to have more on the ball than the doctor!!!!!!

yeah super glue was origionally designed for that exact use! battery acid works but is a bit extreme for cleaning the cuts.. kidney stones lets not even go there!

I've successfully used superglue for cuts... too often in fact :). Side note I recommend an unopened tube of superglue in any medical / repair kit for your trucks, atvs etc. Very useful stuff.
Finger looks horrible but its beginning to heal up. I'm going to end up with a heck of a divot in the skin but I aint ever going to win a beauty pagent anyway so it wont matter.
