Stuck case in resizing die

What is the best way to remove a case (unprimed) stuck in the resizing die? I think there was sufficient lube on the case.

purchase and use a stuck case remover die!!
I fought with a stuck case for over a day and a half earlier this year, and ended up trashing part of the die, thankfully rcbs covered it under a warrentee!

Midway has an RCBS kit for removing stuck cases. You might be able to figure out something similar after looking at it.

If it is an RCBS die just call their customer service and plead mea culpa and they will give you a Return authorization and when you ship it to them they usually just send you a new die and a new set of instructions with the part about lubing the case highlighted in yellow. Shocked

not that I would know from personal experience of course....

i called when i trashed the neck button, and the primer pin, the guy laughed at me and said "ok no charge" great peoples...

There wasn't. No sweat, it's just part of the learning curve. Everyone needs a stuck case puller anyway so get one soon.

Actually, the press itself will tell you when you don't have enough lube, the lever pressure gets MUCH harder to push than usual. When that happens simply pull the case back out - before it seizes - and relube it. There ain't no satisfaction in leaning down on the lever of a case that's already screaming that it don't have enough lube!

Most newbies lube the top half of their cases really well but put less on the lower half. Reverse that and things will go well.

And get some Imperial Die Wax. Apply it with your finger tips, only one case at a time as you place them in the press. It's clean, easy to apply and wipe off, lubes good and it's fast to apply. You will need no messy lube pad that quickly collects grit. What's not to love?

If the case stuck in the die, there wasn't sufficient lube on the case.

A stuck case remover (I bought mine from MidwayUSA) will remove the stuck case easily. I've had to use mine a couple of times.

The only time I've stuck a case in a die SO FAR is when I inadvertently missed the shellholder with a 5.56.

Scratched my head for a minute, then took the shellholder off the ram, raised the ram up to the case, then slid the shellholder into the ram & over the rim at the same time.
Lifted the handle & out it came. Very Happy

I used a 1/4-20 tap, 1/4-20 bolt, thick flat washer, and a socket that just fits over the rim of the casing. Drill the primer hole out, tap it, slide the socket over the casing up against the die, put the bolt through the flat washer into the tapped primer hole and use a wrench to tighten it until the casing comes loose. Took out my 7MM stuck casing very nicely. Yup, I'm cheap. Very Happy

I had all this on hand so I used what I had. So far it has only happened once.

That's exactly the way I have done it except I don't use a socket just more washers. It has worked great for me when needed.

I screw the die down and out of the press so I could remove the shell holder.
Then unscrew the primer puncher out and screw the die back in the press upside down.
Using a steel rod (I use the primer punch from a Lee Loader) on the press ram I push the stuck case out from the case mouth through the upside down die.
I done this a few years ago on my first reloads session.. never again..

Thats the best I could do in explaining what I did..
Maybe I got to post some more to make me more eloquent.. Very Happy
