I have a win model 9410 its a nice gun and i love it. it was my first gun. i got it about a year before winchester started being stupid by no longer making the 94s or the 9410s. i was going to collect them. nevertheless they are fine pieces of workmenship.

Tell you what to do, go find a nice, near new, 94 made 50-60 years ago. They are still around. Compare the 9410 and the old 94 then if you still feel the same about the quality of the 9410, come back and explain why. Make sure this is based on what you think and see, not what some bought and paid for gun writer says.
Best,
Ed

I have 3 1892's and 4 94's 2 of the 94's are pre64. The 1892's, even though they all older than the 94's are FAR better quality that ANY 94....pre or post 64.

I have a Model 339 Marlin 30-30 with the serial # that starts with and H.
This puts the manufacture date at 1950 or 1951.
It is better than any model 94 that I have seen.
On the other hand, my two Winchester Model 71 .348's are better than any lever ever made.
My Model 1895 45/70 Guide gun is my favorite, but for long range, I have my Winchester Model 70 .300WinMag Classic Sporter, which was made with the same specs. as the pre-'64 Winchesters.
THEN there is my Browning Model 81 .358 lever, that has stacked up more deer for me than I can remember.

In the past I would fly with whatever brand of gun that shoots well.

Buying a new gun today, it would have to be Marlin, hands down.
Winchester is done, Browning has gone cheap, and the rest aren't in the same class as the old Marlin.

I'm thinking that my next rifle will be the Marlin Cowboy .45 lever with the octagon barrel.
Sweet, Sweet little rifle.

Eric

The rifle's number is 041 out of 499 that will be sold to the public. I picked it up this afternoon and I already installed the Wild West Guns extractor and Happy Trigger along with the XS ghost ring sight set which replaced the Hi-Viz sights it came with. The original trigger wasn't near as bad as some I've had from Marlin, it measured 4 1/4lbs., but the new trigger is so much smoother and measured 3lbs. I have to adjust those sights at the range, but I think it's about hog huntin' ready! Here's a photo, although of somewhat limited quality.

Thanks guys!
I've got one load that I've used in other 45/70s and has worked well in everything I've tried it in, 460gr. Cast Performance bullet over 38.0gr. of RL-7. It's recoil is stiff, but a very accurate load. I also want to find a more sedate load using 405gr. Remington SP. I saw a pick in Lyman's 48th under their 1873 Spingfield listing using that bullet and 37.0gr. of RL-7 for a velocity of 1440 FPS from a 24" barrel. That should give me about 1360FPS from this 16.25" barrel or close to the factory loading.
At some point I'm going to have to fire this thing off at night just to see how far the flames shoot out! LOL

Your new lever gun looks bloody magnificent BB. Never been a lover of the laminated stocks, but I must admit, that one don't look too bad at all.

As Punkin says...a report on how she performs is in order mate.

I just got back from the range with this new rifle this afternoon and learned a thing or two. First off the accuracy with four different loads was very consistent, it stunk! Every load I tried was grouping around four inches at fifty yards which is minute of hog, but unacceptable. However all is not lost as I don't believe the fault lies with either the rifle or the loads, but rather with my eyes and their inability to cope with iron sights at this stage of my life. My eyes started going down hill about twelve years ago so I started wearing glasses, but after developing type 2 diabetes a bit more than a year ago they have only gotten worse. So as much as I hate to do it I'll be putting a fixed low power scope on the rifle before my next trip to the range. It is, to say the least, extremely frustrating.
