OK so all my shotties are older than most folks here ..
870 12 ga. slug gun
Sportsman 48 16 ga auto ( regular shooter as well )
and a good mix of other older iron ..
Been lusting over this litl 11-87 SP 20 ga
Me I lean towards the 12's but the better half is getting in the act , and performance wise the 12 doesnt have much of an edge .. 3.5 mags not included ...
Friends have a 11-87 12 she really likes and is comfortable with , and a Beretta 390 12 she likes .. But she wants a 20 .. It is smaller framed in the 20 which is a plus for her .. ( 5'3" , 130# with two big rocks in her pockets ) ... Can get the Beretta out the door for $550 , the Remmie a few bux less , the Beretta feels better ( to me ) , but the 11-87 is a natural pointer ..
One fella said he likes his 11-87 , but he won it in a raffle , and if he had to buy one he'd get the new Benelli inertia system .. Fate has it , that the new American Rifleman ( you are a NRA Lifer Dawg like me aren't you ) came in today with a write up on the Benelli inertia system , good write up , says recoils more than a gas gun , but I can buy two Remmies or Berettas for one of them ..
So whatta think of your 11-87's fellas ??
Jack

I thunks u shud luk at da 1100 You have the feel of a beretta in a rem, with the rem price-------> Rem 1100 sport 20
Not that the 11-87 isn't up to par, i just like the way the 1100 feels in my gorilla lfngth arms Plus the fact that 4 "sporting" tubes (no need for tools....in and out by hand) come with is hard to beat!
Benelli's are cool to though, and yeah, i read the article Although while it doesn't say anything about a gas shotgun beating you to death on a cold day, i can assure you that with the inertia system, a cold winter day you'd really appreciate a Benelli over a rem!

My brother has a new Benelli... its the biggest piece of crap on the planet. It jams CONSTANTLY and Benelli wont even take a look at it. You couldnt give me one.
I'd like to upgrade my 1100 and have thought the 11-87 woud be the cats meow... but really I just want a semi-auto that chambers 3" mags (my 1100 is only 2 3/4").

Personaly I have an 11-87 and have shot lots and only needed to replace the gas ring once in 10 years, It shoots 2 3/4 & 3" with out a problem, I have even put both in the mag trying to make it jam and it whistled through them with no trouble.
My cousin has a Beneli super black eagle and the enertia system beats the crap out of the shooter, If you are even the least bit recoil shy, by Remington.

Howdy Jack. I have owned a 11-87 and have a 1100 now. The 11-87 was a sweet shooter wish i never got rid of it needed the money at the time you no the deal, i never had any complaints with it was the 12ga SP with the 26" barrel. The 11-87 and the 1100 (for me) are the best two shotguns i have ever owned they point so nice for me, they just fit. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either one.

My 11-87 12 is reliable if kept clean,it sometimes jams with light loads when it gets dirty.I dont have any trouble with heavy loads but then I dont shoot as many of them between cleanings.

I have an 11-87 Premier Upland Special 20 gauge that I would not take a mint for. It handles well and hits what I shoot at. It is the first Remington shotgun that has ever done that for me.

I had an 11-87 and traded it for an 1100. I now have 1100s in 12, 16 and 20 gauges. I prefer tyhe 1100 and the used gun racks have a lot of excellent ones at decent prices. Take care...
