I tried hiding the leather strap a couple of times,
I don't know how mum found it
but she always did.

It's her house. You just were allowed to live there...

Corporal punishment definitely has it's place as a behavior and attitude adjusting tool. Unfortunately, with the dumbing-down of society there are far too many in this time and place that fail to understand the line between punishment and brutality.

My dad took this one step further. He was a drill instructor in WWII and treated us boys as his platoon. When one of us did something wrong we all got the strap. It sure made us watch out for one another. My brothers and I are still close even though we live thousands of miles apart. I think the old man was pretty smart. I tried to be half as smart as him when I had my boys and I am very proud of the men my sons turned into.

I've heard of this kinda punishment before - when one messes up they all get it. I wasn't raised that way (I think its more of an ol fashioned way) but if ya think about it aint such a bad idea. Motivates em all to do good and stick it out for each other. Hmmmm.....

One of the rules in my house was that you never tattle on your brothers and sisters unless it was a safety thing. If I couldn't get to the bottom of the problem and determine the quilty party I did punish all of them (5). It was garanteed that they would punish the guilty one after I left the garage...

That's a good method too Bush..I don't like tattlin either but I only got two of em. Usually I'm able to flush out who did what and go from there but there's a few times I had to give it to both of em. Sounds like you used the garage as the "judgment room" LOL... Mines the barn.

One of my best moments was when the only girl was picking on her younger brother and she ran into the bathroom and locked the door. My son put his fist through the door. I got home and sent both to the garage. When I went out there I took a belt to the boy while his sister watched knowing that she was next. I didn't take the belt to her just gave her a dirty look and left the garage. Never had to replace another door again. The boy got the belt because he had the last decision to NOT break the door...

My cousins (all boys on Dad's side) would all get sent out to the grandparents in the summer time to help grandpa work the farm. all of us heard the stories of grandpa wielding his razor strap like Conan wielded his great battle sword when they were growing up, when we were out there, grandpa had the strap hanging from a post by the tractor in the barn for all to see......needless to say, we never misbehaved at grandpa's - besides, if our parents would have found out that we got the strap from grandpa, we would have gotten the belt when we got home just for good measure. Somebody mentioned "leather trained" - that was us for sure!

With my first 2 that I raised myself, if they got started at each other I'd walk out there and ask them which one wanted it first? They would usually point fingers at one another and the first one pointing usually got it first.
