Dallen,

That is about what I am getting out of the 175 gamekings is around 3200. Other than that I haven't really tried anything else as of yet. I haven't really had much of a reason to (IMO), I can shoot 5 shots in a half inch at 100 yds. I have shot one 5x6 bull (at 372 yds) and two cow elk (both around 250 yds) with that load. All three were one shot, and they didn't even take a step. Maybe I am missing something here, but I guess the way I look at it is if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I am however interested in the TSX. I think I may try and load some of those up.

Ok then, what powder and amount are you using to push those 175s? Perhaps I just have a real slow barrel on mine Sad

Sorry about the late reply. I am using Hodgdon H1000. 79 grains, I know that the book says it's at 3100 fps. I am going to chronograph it here in the next couple of weeks to know for sure. The few rounds that I did fire through the chronograph were at 3160 to 3180 fps.

I finally gave up on Barnes bullets. Couldn't get them to group at all. Tried numerous calibers and loadings, to no avail. However, there was one exception. In my 45-70 the 300 grainer groups very well. Have not taken a deer or hog with it yet but that will change in the next few weeks. I probably won't try the TSX. Too bad a taste in my mouth to drop the dollars for testing that one. I know this thread is old but I had to add my .02.

Well.
This is my 1st post to a neat forum!
I have a 7STW in a sendero, love it!
My go to rifle is a sako 75 s/s with a Macmillan stock and a Kreiger barrel
in 300RUM I went to the TSX after useing accubonds and scirrocos I didn't
like the extreme meat damage . I used it on a 360 bull 1st season in
extreme N.W. Co. I would post pictures but I haven't figured out how to
shrink them down (3.4mb) IT worked great and is just as accurate in the RUM & the Stw .
NICE BUCK!!!!
I have bear hunted in the bookcliffs and it really is the widest and rugged place I have hunted

Welcome to the site hysider!

Glad to hear someone else has been in the Bookcliffs, its pretty amazing country. Thanks for the deer comment, I got really lucky... I saw alot of pictures of deer that came out of there and very few beat mine (not that I concider it a contest LOL). I was really happy with what I ended up with, after seeing picture after picture of typical mule deer, I always wanted a heavy trashy buck and I finally got one. His right side G1 and G2's are freaking huge plus the bladeing up top... dont know that you can really see it in the pictures but hes got some "waving" going on along some of the tines as well. Very unique...

I guess I might have to look into trippleshocks .... I am extremely disappointed in the XLCs but lots of people are singing praises of the TShocks saying they are accurate so next time I get $40 to blow I'll pick up a box to try out.

Amusingly Barnes plant where they make the bullets is about 3 miles from where I sit right now. They invited me for a tour but I never got around to actually visiting it.

What weight TShocks are you shooting in your STW? Thats exactly what I shoot so I keep my ears open for potential new loads (still found nothing that outshoots factory rem ammo though... moderately discouraging as I've blown a pretty hefty amount of $$$ trying to get something to shoot worth a darn).

TSX's Rock!

My 300 RUM puts 3 into .74" at 200 yds at a blazing 3500 fps for the 168 gr.

I have used the Partitions for years and a buddy and I stumbled upon the TSX bullets. I bought a 30-06 last year that I was having a hard time taming partitions with, we loaded up some TSX and my rifle put on the feed bag and said "Gimme some more". My buddy shoots a .300 WSM and had incredible results at 200 yards. Being hard headed I decided to take the TSX on an elk hunt in Colorado (kept a sleeve of partitions in my pack just in case). I shot a rather large cow behind the front shoulder and she just dropped. The entry hole was about the size of a baseball, I recovered the round out of her ribs. and it retained about 95% of it's original weight (never got that with my other bullets). I used a 168gr TSX with IMR 4350 at medium load recommended for Barnes X bullets (Barnes recommendation as the load charts for TSX are not published yet). For this rifle, I am really impressed, worked well in the field. I ran a few tests putting the TSX up against the partitions, from my rifle, they were a little more accurate - nothing huge, but they would consistently get about 200 fps over the partitions. I plan on running similar tests from my .308 - old dog, new trick.

quick note is the load:

168gr TSX for .30-06
Remington Brass
Federal #210 primer
IMR 4350 @ 56gr

don't recall exactly and I don't have my chrony notes, but this gave me about 2700 fps and a shot group @ 100yds of .5 inch - 3 round shotgroups.

This Winter I wll be running some loads for both a .308 and a .30-06 with some Hodgden and RL powders as well as the IMR to see what shapes up - if you are interested on the results, let me know via PM.

I ended up hunting elk with the .30 cal 180g TSX's last fall. Didn't get a shot.

Today I bought som e 168g TSDX'x for my 'new' .308 Win. I plan to drive them hard for load development but what I am really looking forward to is the new 168g MRX. I'll make the sewitch when I can get my hands on them.
