Help me--Zastava M85 - pro's, cons - opinions - for noob

Noob has asked me about a Zastava M85 for a first centre fire.

He says it's in 7.62- "7.62 what?" I asked ----no idea uncle owns it and want to give it to me for a coupla hundred. is his reply.
ME- What model
Him M85
Me-anything else you can tell me about the rifle??

Zastava AFIK are iron curtain copies of mauser 98's so it could be safe. Should be strong aand ugly and work in all conditions if other iron curtain guns are anything to go by but----- accurate and iron curtain AFIC dont go thogether without work.

I really have NFI about them but I thought I would ask here before I opened my mouth further.

I cannot just ditch this noob as he's the son of the MIL best friend and I like my wog cooked meals.

Usual game he's going after- ferals and pests vermin.

Can you guys give me any help here about M85's and history of them and whether you have owned one and What version of 7.62 it's possible going to be??

7.62x 39, 51, 54R 53 ????????????????????????

I got a vastava 223 mini mauser and they are plurry great accurate solid and reliable. they come out in 7.62x39 and i think 7.62x51

but giving an answer on an old question that remained without any reaction is a very nice gesture, which should be appreciated.

And it was a strange question:

"The Zastava M85 and M90/M90A rifles chamber and fire the 5.56x45mm NATO round. They are gas-operated, air-cooled, magazine-fed, selective fire weapons with a fixed (M90) or folding (M85, M90A) stock."

so not at all a 7.62x....
and not the first choice as hunting rifle when you want to hunt animals Smile

I made my .300 Whisper using Zastava mini mauser action.
Very strong and not ugly at all.
