RePete,
If you cut a 1 1/4" hole in a 2x4 it will make drilling those holes easier.
set the ball on the hole and use your drill press to bore through.
If you have to use a hand drill then cut a hole that is ball size and then cut the board through the center of the hole. Put a hinge on one side and a hook and eye on the side. Put the ball in the hole and squeeze it together hook it and then drill.

Why bother tying them up....just sit 'em out there and have at 'em. They wouldn't be any good after a hit anyway so let fly mate.

We're not allowed to shoot at the range floor.

Tie up 6+ on the rail and shoot at them. You'd be surprised at the number of hit they will take before needing replacing.

Once in a while you may hit the twine/cord or they will go because a Frankenboomer took the ball.
I leave them at the range for others to shoot at.

When I strung a dozen balls I just stick them is an egg carton for strorage and transporting to the range. They store better in egg cartons.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a try.

I bought a bulk bag of mixed-color paintballs (they are CHEAP) and use these as tagets. I had drilled holes in a 2X4 to set them on, but a hit on one sometimes scatters the bunch of them. Next, I tried gluing the paintballs onto golf tees. This works well. A small hole drilled through the tee gives a simple way to hang it on a wire. We score 5 points for hitting a paintball without damaging the tee, and minus 5 points if the tee is hit. I am using paintballs about 3/4" diameter, and they are challenging with handguns.
