What can you do with 30 minutes, a 1/8” punch and a pair of padded Robogrip pliers?
Build an AR-15 lower!!

Just to say I could – I ordered a RRA stripped lower and a parts kit with the NM trigger. I got the parts last night and asked my engineer friend Wayne to watch and make sure I did not screw anything up. When he arrived my bench looked similar to this. (This is not my image but you get the idea.) I got the NM trigger so it was partially pre assembled.

Here are the actual parts included in a parts kit.

I followed the instructions on AR15.com

and quickly had the magazine catch and the bolt catch and the trigger guard installed. The bugaboo came when installing the pivot pin detent pin and spring. Wayne and I shot the detent pin which is about the size of a grain of rice across my workshop no less than six times!! Each time we managed to listen carefully and determine where the little bugger ended up. We finally got it wrangled into place and moved on to trigger installation. I had installed my own triggers before so this was a 30 second job. Next up was the selector for safety and pistol grip, rear takedown pin and detent pin and buttstock installation all went pretty smoothly… We did launch the buffer retainer once but found it quickly….. Total time on task – 45 minutes with about 20 of those minutes spent looking for the little pivot pin detent. Here is a look at the finished results.

Great job DD. Don't ya just love chasing those little itty bitty detent balls and pins....heaps of fun. Laughing And, its amazing how far those not so big or strong springs can fling the little buggers.

Cheers, Vince

Thanks for sharing. Lots of good info. I've bought a lower to build but have let too many other projects take priority.

What scope rings are you using? How much do they raise the scope's center line?

Millet Extra High with windage adjustable base. They say for AR 15 right on the package.

Eye position on my 1" scope is dead on with my cheek weld like the iron sight on an A2.
