Never faced up any cougar in our neck of the woods, there's a woman in Montana who we won't mention who I think is expecting some kind of mounted cougar as a gift from me..hmm.... quote..

perceptive of him huh? wouldnt have the heart to hunt one. feel to connected with them and bears.

Bushmaster... the human factorehere in the mountains are the most unnerving and now I go everywhere with my p99. I agree with you
Havent seen a big cat yet but I was sure I smelled one when I was hiking in the Grand Tetons a couple of years back. when the moose in the marsh laid down for a bit i relaxed and kept snapping pics.

wncchester.. its in the male dna so you dont have to remember why

regards

The closest I've been to a cougar was about 75 yards. They are beautiful cats. Here in the PNW they rarely come into contact with people - they're smarter than some people I know. When you do get a conflict it is usually with small kids but when an adult is attacked the cat usually loses. They just don't have the jaws to get those teeth where they would do the most damage. Black bears are a different story. We have lots of parks and in most of them the bears are not affraid of people. I have run accross two blackies that I had to face down and I was glad that I was carrying both times. Didn't have to shoot the bear either time but it wasn't easy to convince them that I was more work than it was worth. As old as I am now I wouldn't be worth eating.

PaulS...In california the cougar is quite proficiant at killing joggers and bicycle riders on the local park trails. They have no problem bringing an adult human down. The californians fault though...It was their choice to become "food". The idea when facing a cougar is just as you said about the Black Bears. "Don't look or act like food!!"

DNA...ShmiNA. At 64 I haven't forgotten...Wincchester must really be old...

This is really funny, and I loved all the points but when I will be at this age even I will be going through this situation and so it has been very much sad that the years are passing very quickly.
