Since most of the people I know are on this thread .
I will take the time to wish each and every one a Very Merry Christmas .

Winter has arrived up here in North Bay Canada , too much snow and too cold to pull up a stump and have a beer .

So next Saturday , there is every one that is special gathered around the table for turkey and stuffin' . Very Happy Very Happy
While mother in law and the wives were cooking and chating in the kitchen , the men sat in the living room in front of the tube .
"Cheers " Yup ! usually with a beer as usual !! Very Happy

Chambered!! I like both of your selections, the additional extras too, the S&W comes with various grip pads and 2 magazines, one with an extended finger rest (sub compact) and one with out, the Springfields come with a holster, I don't know about the various safeties tho. S&W has (with or without) a magazine safety which sounds like a good idea. and the Springfields have a grip safety. I suppose the grip safety is sort of like the trigger safety in that you don't really notice using it?

Prices are reasonable too. I'm thinkin a sub compact 9mm. The 40s&w is too much fun for me to use much. I don't conceal carry but a sub compact can be hidden away in a little easy-to-reach spot in the house. No kids around here. I'm thinkin out-loud again...

Aloysius!! My good friend. Middle fingers to you! Well I tried your idea (here in the house) just to see what the effect is. If I use my middle finger with a tight grip.......on the gun...it seems like a pivot point, very high on the grip. I think that would not be enough to stop my limp wrist. I'll give it a try with some live rounds though, just to make sure. I'll send Jon out to hold some targets for me. Just kidding...

Suz, the new Glocks come with various grips and they always come with 2 mags except when the ban was on I saw many dealers pull one of the hi-capacity mag and sell it outright. How old is your Glock?

I have a Glock sub-compact with a finger extention added to the magazine. It shoots as good as the full-size pistols.

I just found out I can convert my 40S&W to a .357 SIG by changing to a Glock 32 barrel. Anybody know of any other mods you have to do? Recoil spring? Magazines?

That would be interesting and fun to do. Cheaper than a new gun! Less recoil? I dunno....higher pressures....hmmmm.....I'll look into that one.

Slim I don't know what year my Glock was made and I bought it used. I tried a serial number look-up from TopGlock and the darned thing doesn't work any more. The numbers start with BBV is that second generation? I'd have to call them to find out I guess. Mine has 2 magazines a high cap and a low cap. Yours must be a 26? Sweet! I don't have a way to change out the grips and they're pretty thick for me.

Suz, my daughter is very fond of my Ruger SR9. She likes the way it feels in her hand and the way it shoots. So fond of it in fact that it now lives at her house. wtf

suz, the barrel change is all that is needed, to switch to 357 sig. The price of ammo is considerable around here.

You can get a 9mm conversion barrel also, I'm gettin stoked now!!! that's pretty cool..
Yeah I looked at Rugers a long time ago and the price is right but there were a few things I didn't like can't remember what, the SR9 is nice and slim too. Maybe I should re-visit. Thanks for the suggestions....I might just get another present out of this yet.

Suz

I bought a replacement barrel for my .40-cal Glock so I could shoot lead bullets through it. The point of impact was way off from the stock barrel. It was an aftermarket barrel that I concluded wasn't made to the correct tolerances.

If you would like, I could switch barrels and shoot my .40-cal Glock with a 9mm factory barrel and let you know how well it worked.

Cool SlimJ!! do you have a conversion barrel in 9mm? that would be cool! Yeah I've heard the sighting would be off, wondering how much tho. Also heard that only the Glock barrels should be used but there are conversion barrels that are made for switching and the Glock barrels are only what Glock makes that fits in other caliber guns. They're not exactly made for conversions, they just happen to fit. But there are also conversion barrels that aren't up to snuff, so I don't know what brand would be best.

Switching to a .357 Sig will not solve any of your recoil issues !!!
This cartridge is nothing more than a .40 S&W necked down to .357 to create a bottle neck cartridge. Operating pressure is 38,000+ PSI, that's more than the 40. The idea behind it was to create an auto loader to rival the 4" duty revolver in a .357 mag..........they did !!!

The 9mm conversion sounds like a decent alternative for cheap practice but I'd have concerns about using it as a defense weapon.

Why?...reliability? If so, why do it anyway, that was my whole idea, something I was more comfortable with. Now I"m back to, I-gotta-get-a-whole-new-gun.

So do you know anybody that's done it?

Yes.......Reliability !!!

The 9mm has a .394 base diameter and the .40 has a .424 diameter.
How much of the extractor gets a hold of the rim ? What about the ejector, is it reliable. How about feeding the ammo to the chamber, will the above have any influence on it.

I've seen a few videos of guys shooting these conversions without trouble but I'm also willing to bet they were using FMJ's not the typical defense loads.

I'm not saying they don't work.........only that I'd have concerns about it if I were to stake my life on it.

Suz, around these parts, a lightly used Glock goes within a few dollars of a new one. Its got to be less expensive for you to sell your .40 Glock and take that money plus a little to buy a new 9mm than it would be to buy a conversion barrel. You wouldn't be buying just the barrel, you would need magazines also. Plus there are the valid issues that chambered brought up. If you want to count on this gun, then avoid the barrel conversion.

Plus, before you do anything, go shoot some lighter grain bullets out of your .40 Glock. Those 180s are like a hammer. Some of the self-defense loads are around 100 grains, very effective, with little recoil.
