This fellow was elk hunting alone. He took this picture with the camera's self timer. He said he nearly craped his pants when he looked at the photo's the next day.
I guess so!

I hunt alone all the time.Never managed to bag an elk , have had wolves pass buy lots of times. guy was lucky the camera flash saved his but.

From several years of successfully hunting elk and mountian lions alone I can tell you that the cat is the least of your worries. For anyone who has ever had to extract a full grown elk from the backside of a distant mountain by themselves they can attest. Before its over you will have wished many times that the cat would eat about half of it for you.

I have hunted Elk alone many times and skb2706 is right, many times I've wished the wolves would eat half before I get it out of the forest. But it's too much fun and I'm not about to stop Elk hunting plus I usually know some of the hunters camped a few miles from my camp and if I really need help all I need to do is ask.

I've hunted elk alone in the mountains of Colorado and Montana for over 40 years. Back when Montana had a Grizzly bear season, I hunted alone for them for several years. Unfortunately, I never saw a Grizzly during an open season. I did however chase one away once from our elk camp by bouncing a rock off him.

I've hunted all of Montana's big game animals alone. While hunting alone, I've killed Mtn Goat, 3 Bighorn sheep, Shiras Moose, Mule deer, Whitetail deer, Pronghorn antelope, Black bear, and somewhere between 20 to 25 Elk.

Last season I was 64 years old when I killed my bull elk. Luckily there was snow on the ground and my drag out was mostly downhill. I'm looking forward to many more elk and other big game hunts.

And as for that Photoshopped (??) photo in the first post, I usually have a Mtn lion tag in my pocket, so I'd welcome an opportunity like that!

Thanks for the kind comments. It's been a while since I've been on this forum.

My only physical training routine is lifting weights for an hour, 3 days a week. In the winter I also workout on my eliptical machine 2 or 3 days a week. I made one bedroom of my house into a weight room with a couple of weight machines and some free weights.

I've always been active outdoors, was a ski instructor and pro ski patrolman in Colorado for 10 years, and concurrently worked in the woods in Colorado and Montana for 40 years. I still like to walk and hike and get out often with my Golden Retriever. I also got bitten by the golf bug several years ago and play (walking) almost every day. Last year I played 160 days. Global Warming has been slow coming to Montana so I've only played golf 24 days so far this year. Laughing
