I did further web searches but couldn't find out what the issue was. It will be interesting to see what the issue really was.

I also found this report from a man who works in security at a nuclear facility.
"Initially we had a lot of stovepipes due to the recoil springs being too strong. Nothing but top quality domestic ammo was used, so it was not an ammo issue. Glock replaced our recoil assemblies with newly designed ones that used lighter springs.
The stovepipes went away, but we started getting occasional problems with the recoil spring assemblies getting hung up on the front of the slide and locking it into battery. No amount of force could cycle the slide, and they had to be disassembled and reassembled to fix the problem. Not good in a gunfight. Glock replaced our replacement recoil spring assemblies with a third version. These reduced the frequency of our problems, but didn't eliminate them entirely.
The replacement guns we are getting have a new chamfer at the front that supposedly does a better job of aligning the recoil spring assembly and capturing the spring."
and this later report from the same guy.
"They are swapping our early Gen 4 Glock 17's for new ones with updated machining at the front of the slide. They have the recess to capture the spring. Time will tell if it works or not. Our initial test firing and quals have been good so far, but this round of quals is pretty low round count. I won't commit to whether it's a 100% solution for another couple months. I do hope it works."

I currently have 4 Glocks, 17, 22, 24C, 26 and had a 2nd 17 for about 5 years that I sold because my son told me he wasn't interested in shooting pistol (fortuneatley, that has changed). I started shooting Glocks 20 years ago. I have had a couple of stove pipes due to limp wrist and had two failures to feed that were corrected with new magazine springs (mags were 18 years old). I was going to sell my 22 and replace it with a 34 Gen4 (deal with wife is if I want a new gun, one of the ones I have has got to go - safe is full anyway). Maybe I'll wait a while for the Gen4s to mature before I sell the Glock 22.

I have a 23 and 27, both Gen. 3s. I'm sure the Gen. 4 will have the bugs worked out before long, but for now I'll buy Gen. 3s if any. I have my eye on getting either a 20 or 21, but still haven't decided which. I have a lot of .45acp ammo and reloading components, but the 10mm does have an appeal to it.
