Here is what will happen:

1. They will find some of the nuts.

2. They will take them to a hospital where they might be admitted to a mental health unit if said hospital has one that has an open bed.

3. The crazy person might be kept there for a few days.

4. The crazy person will be discharged

5. The crazy person will once again stop court ordered treatment.

There was a time when the mentally ill were institutionalized but that was considered too expensive so with the alleged motive of helping them, they were put out to fend for themselves which many didn't do well.

AKA "care in the community" over here, or FOAD in real terms.

Every time someone is killed by one of these people, it is described as "an isolated incident".
Trouble is; we have hundreds of these "isolated incidents" every year.
With the cost of a homicide investigation, trial & subsequent incarceration running to tens of millions for every incident (& never mind the human cost), I can't see how long term secure accommodation can't be cost effective.
