It's been around long enough to have been proven efficient as a game cartridge. Many manufacturers make fine, quality rifles, their are excellent bullets to choose from if you reload. It is common enough that ammo is usually plentiful if you buy it.
There is a lot to like about the caliber and rifles chambered for it.

I think( I don't do it often) the 7mmmag is a good caliber but I think the 8/06 or the 30-06 is just as good. ya kinda tear up the meat on jacks or dogs. I do like the 8-06 cause ya can go from 125 to 250 on bullet selection. my fatherinlaw built a 7x57AI moved the throat out .050" ,using my f1 chrony it's only 125fps fron the 7mmag. However, the 7mm mag does kick alot less than than the 300 winmag. Dave

Elk at medium range? 7Mag is a nice caliber, with light bullets it can be a good long range deer gun, with heavy bullets its a good shorter range elk gun. Its flexible enough to go both ways.

#10: Re: 7mm Remington Mag good od bad? Author: wncchester, Posted: Sun Feb 04, 2007 7:16 pm ---- Goodness! There's probably a half million of so of them in the woods each hunting season. Rem's 7 Mag. rifle and its ammo sales for big game cartridges are in the top 4 or 5 each year. Maybe there's a reason?
#11: Re: 7mm Remington Mag good od bad? Author: Crackshot, Location: MichPosted: Sun Feb 04, 2007 9:22 pm ---- Great Rifle cartridge. the only thing I dont like about mine is the muzzle break some one had put on it........LOUD! Wow, it'll break your ear drums with plugs in and muffs on...
#12: Re: 7mm Remington Mag good od bad? Author: Handloader, Location: Phoenix, ArizonaPosted: Mon Feb 05, 2007 11:45 pm ---- The 7mm Rem Mag is a fine cartridge. It's history and success shows that it is almost as good as the 30-06.

#14: Re: 7mm Remington Mag good od bad? Author: hunter63, Posted: Thu Feb 08, 2007 11:07 am ---- My 2 cents:
Love mine, haven't had to chase anything since I started using it.
I take that back the elk was dead, but slid down the mountain a ways.
Have taken antelope, elk , mulies and white tail, did sorta blow up a coyote. ( not a varmit gun)
Do load down to 130 gr sierra boat tails, for antelope, up to 166 gr cor-loc's for elk.
Flat shooter, if I can see it I can kill it.
