I've hunted with a 7.62x39 and killed 2 deer with it the same day. The first one was @ approximatly 130 yards, heart shot he ran about 80 yards with a good blood trail. The second was only 15 yards and ran, if you want to call it that, about 50 yards. Both were a one shot kill. If you check out the ballistics on it you'll find it pretty much equal to a 30-30 which has been a popular caliber for deer for about a hundred years or so. There is ammo available for hunting which is I believe is a 147gr soft point core-lokt. As far as being a good round for deer or comparable sized game, depends on the shooter and shot placement. |
