a very nasty poison invented by the Nazis that is banned in most places in the world that kills not very quickly causing a great deal of pain that has NO ANTIDOTE. it is spread in the form of green carrots or green pellets to kill possums but has a large bi kill of deer and causes secondary poisoning of bird life as well. I remember my father going out at midnight and shooting one of our dogs in town as he had taken a dose while out hunting and that night was in so much pain he destroyed his kennel/ run
I know of close to 20 dogs that have been killed by it
NAAASTY shite.
NZ uses 80% ish of the worlds production of it..it is a disgrace that the hunting public have been trying to combat for decades.

1080 is an evil poison. It is still used in Australia, but you have to now get approval to use it as a pest exterminator. Once or the worse properties of 1080 is you can start off small, say a 1/2 pound fruit bait laced with 1080 that is consumed by a 5 pound skunk, which is consumed by a 20 pound coyote, that is consumed by a 250 pound bear. That initial 1/2 pound bait has turned into a 250 pound bait because it is residual and persistent and taints the whole carcass with poison.

Getting back on topic...Elvis, is the hazing if the deer etc now being looked at by the authorities mate?

it appears so. it made front page of Timaru Herald today (available online) the politicians have gotten hold of it and as we voters are making noises...fingers crossed something MAY get done
Im flicking from this site to another where the shit fight over this is getting very heated and not looking to quiet down any time soon..guilty of adding fuel to flames..the pilots and skid biters are just soo friggin arrogant about it that its sickening.
we may one day end up with a 24hour rule as they have in some countries..eg no shooting within 24 hours of flying..but that will be hard as we Kiwis go for the weekend hunt all the time, but would solve some issues.
we get that some shooting from choppers is needed for population control its just so darn efficient that you have to be blind not to see it.
what hurts is the way these "cowboys" are in public land and getting paid to do this while giving neither the animals or foot hunters a chance.
the "shooters" are even then taking trophies home and appear to be claiming fair chase to get them entered in records/competitions Sad that just detracts from the whole animal worth as a trophy even more.

Seems to me that what you guys need is a Politician onside who understands the problem and is in a position to rein in the chopper pilots/guides. Those doing the wrong thing need to be hamstrung with regulations that not only prevent them from doing the wrong thing. The regulations must hit them hard, making it extremely unprofitable and definitely not worthwhile attempting by introducing penalties that do not allow leeway or discretion on the part of Judges and Magistrates and the legal fraternity. Be a good way for the Government to increase its helicopter fleet.

This kind of cr-p just makes me sick and angry enough to ___________ Yeah, it would be great to find a politician that understood, good luck with that.

Now, I don't know who is allowed to make contributions to a potential or existing politicians election campaign in NZ or Australia, but here in the US businesses, lobbyists; and even foreign countries contribute money in violation of our laws (by having hundreds of their people make small anonymous donations) in support of a politicians election or re-election. So who has more money to contribute? Ya think they are supporting the ass hole who has the best interests of the US citizen in mind or do you think they might expect a little tiny extra special favor some time in the distant future, that oh my goodness might not even be in the best interest of the people of our country. Gives a whole new meaning the a government of the people, for the people, and by the people.

WHAT PEOPLE, WHERE?

So, how did Harry Reid go from a penniless newly elected Senator in 1986 to being worth somewhere between 3 and 10 million dollars in 2014 on a salary of less than $200K a year living in two of the most expensive places to live in our country, Washington DC, and Las Vegas?

Well it must be that he has done such a great job for all the American people that they are just sending him every extra penny they have. Or, maybe it's his buddies in China.

Anyway good luck finding a politician with anything that remotely resembles ethics, a true desire to do what is best for his country, or a concern with anything other than getting re-elected and who will make him the richest.

Tar, feathers and a ride out of town on a steel rail.

There are still a few politicians who would probably prepared to do the right thing. In Australia we have a couple of Politicians who were actually elected on a Firearms and Hunting agenda.
