Now you've gone and introduced facts into the arguement.
Facts dont matter.
Our government has signed onto so many UN treaties that require total disarmament of the civilian population it doesnt matter what the facts are.
Guns are evil, guns kill end of argument, only we the government need them so we can tell what to do and when to do it......
Now repeat after us, kumbyar my lord,kumbyar etc.

Both Gelan and Pete are 1000% correct...we here in Australia are suffering 'death by a thousand cuts' with our firearms laws...they just keep nibbling away at the firearms laws, making things more and more difficult and making things illegal until in the end we will not be allowed to own any firearm.

When that happens, the only guns left in Australia will be in the hands of criminals...and the terrorists. I actually saw on Facebook last night where someone suggested that what we need in Australia is a revolution. Not good because the average Aussie (real Aussie) tends to be complacent with a "she'll be right mate" attitude and will bow down to the law and authorities, regardless of right or wrong. I believe it is this attitude that the Govt relies on to a large extent to maintain control.

Perhaps the government telling you that you can't defend your animals would get the point across better than no self defense.

Paul,
Self defence is a BIG NO NO especially with a firearm, regardless of circumstance unless you are a cop, especially in Victoria.

OK, but can a rancher protect and defend his animals?

Yep.
Against non human predators.
Unless they are an aging lion called cecil.
Cattle ruslers are criminals and therefore sacrosanct and protected from being shot, unless by police, who are all hiding in bushes with speed cameras "saving lives".....

Pete, you are starting to sound as cynical as me mate, which would be funny if what you are saying wasn't 100% true. Oh yeah, and protecting against those non human predators...you can only use a firearm to protect them if you are on 40 or more acres and a road is not within a certain distance (can't remember how far).

My sentiment exactly.. bitching about stupid gun laws is an Aussie thing..
Cos thats all we could do, bitch about it..
Gun laws here is draconian due to the lack of constitution that protect our right.
We have NO right to bear arms, gun usage here are privilege not rights.
In any confrontation it is our duty as a good citizen to run away.

every animal on earth has a right, responsibility, and the tools to do so give by God at birth. Just because some men have told you that you don't have the same rights that God gave a ram doesn't mean it's true.
Our constitution doesn't give us our rights. They are listed there only to remind the government that they are supposed to protect our rights. They are no longer doing very well at that so now it is going to be our turn to protect those rights.
My ancestors fought in the war that won us the recognition of those rights and helped to found the government that is trying to take them. They will NEVER take my guns as long as I live.

Paul I'll sign the pact. There was a time when I thought if they came for my guns what could I do, so I'd hand them over and then do what I had to do to get a gun illegally. However there has to be a point when you make a stand and say no more and I have reached that decision. I have no illusions of being able to hold out against SWAT teams or government troops and should they come they will surely prevail, but I agree, they will never take my guns away while I'm alive.
