|
This is true story that could have turned out as a disaster for this young newbie. This was the first deer hunting trip in the woods with a senior deer hunter. The lad had taken the hunters safety course but what he did on watch almost got him killed.
He was placed on watch and he had to stand most of the time to see areas deer could be coming from. His senior friend said , stay right here and when I come back through at lunchtime I will pick you and we,ll go get,s some eat,s.
Hunting public land , ok. Now this kid was wearing a BLAZE orange hat,Red and Black checkered wool pants and shirt for warmth. And Sorel Boots. Now
from a distance away within reason you could easily see and know he was a hunter. He had all good normal proper color hunters wear.
Now this is what happened, the kid,s nose was running from a resent cold and he wanted to wipe his nose. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a white hankerchief took it up by his nose and by shear luck , he dropped it.He then bent over to pick up the hanky and someone blew a hole in the tree where a moment before his head was. That was the last time this kid hunted. Do not go deer hunting with a white hanky. Get the large checkered red ones.
_________________ I,m a newbie but a Senior hunting experienced newbie. Been hunting for over 40 years. And I still hunt deer.
I,ve have lost track from over the years on how many Whitail,s I have dumped.Got lost a couple of times but I still got out around sunset. I am here as a good friend to help with any questions that from knowledge under my belt I can answer. God Bless. Thank you for letting me sit at your table.TwoSeventy . |

a shot that close I would be returning fire forsure....well there would be something explosive going on in the rear of my trousers anyway!!!!!!!
Ive had a load of superX #2 shot from a .12ga hit spanyard bush 18" behind my legs...Brother in law doesnt try to figure out safety catches anymore..... and thats the issue with behind trigger safeties if you are a lefty.
