I've been wondering,

I've read that Remington went from the M1917 to the Model 30 then to the Model 721 and finnally to the Model 700 is this accurate ?? Confused

the models as they were produced are:

model 30, 720, 721/722, 725, and finally the 700

the #30 and 720 shared some components and had minor internal differences but both were short lived and less popular than they might have been if the Winchester #70 had not been in the picture. The refinements made for the 721/722 were for strength and some appearance changes. the 725 further refined the design but the 700 was redesined to make a stronger action, appealing to the eye and easy to machine with modern methods and materials. A completely adjustable three lever trigger was installed and the shallow extractor was replaced with one that engaged the full depth of the shell rim.

PaulS nailed it and gave an excellent overview of the evolution of the Remington rifle line. I would just comment that it is interesting that Remington has been offering push-feed rifles since the Model 30. Yet Winchester was chastised decades later for going to a push-feed in 1964. All the best...

Gil,

I'd imagine the reason people didnt like Winchesters move was because it got rid of a American manufacturer of push feed actions.

Mind you I myself prefer pushfeed actions because of a compeling case made by a "expert" on the subject on another hunting/firearms forum Very Happy

Winchester's model 70 changed from controlled round feed TO push feed in '64 .
