Vortex makes good glass. I have their Razor spotter and its very very good. In most reviews the Razor always comes in 3rd, they usually say something like "fractionally less sharp than a Swarovski" ... which is amazing considering its half the cost!

I bought a Vortex scope to put on my muzzleloader when the new Nikon started loosing zero. It worked fine.

Dallan, doesn't the Nikon have a lifetime guarantee?

Very good. The lowers themselves are actually made by CMT (Continental Machine Tool) who also make Rock River, S&W etc etc lowers.

You are spot on Dallan! I received my rifle a few days before I left for Regina and my mom's funeral and rolled 10 rounds up and this rifle shoots soft! I used 168g SRA tmk 40 gr IMR 3031 NEW Rem cases CCI 200 primers. I am looking forward to developing my loads for this rifle when I get home.

Well I have had this rig out to get some stats and check loads. I can't say that my shooting has been that great. But, I do manage to get approx 1.25 in groups at 100 yds. My bullet speeds haven't been as high as i thought they would be only in the 2400 to 2500 fps range for 42-44 gr Varget. My 46 gr varget loads seemed and I mean seemed to be all over the place but there was no signs of overpressure on any of the loads. In fact, the loads in the 40 gr range for bothe varget and 3031 were on the side of too light for some reason.

The ADI Handloaders book lists 41 - 45.5 gun of 2208 (Varget) with a velocity of 2730 fps.

I would increase the load in steps of 3/10 of a grain increments, watching for pressure signs, and measuring group sizes for each step. I think you will find a sweet spot around the 45gr mark. Maybe revisit your loading method. I throw the load a few grains short on hand trickle up to the desired load.

Good luck mate...Varget is a brilliant powder and works well in the 308...it’s just a matter of fine tuning the load.

I am not familiar with the restrictions in Canada and why this rifle would not be restricted. Are AR15s restricted? I just find a rifle that weights 8.6 pounds without ammo or scope is a bit much to take into the field to hunt with. I am used to 7.5 pounds for the total rifle weight with scope and ammo.

AR15s are restricted "By Name" Libertard thinking. AR10 predates the AR15/16 platform ergo they are not currently restricted. For some light reading go to the RCMP Canadian firearms program website and have a go. My 6 year old Colt could come up with better and more thoughtful regulations.

Not that it will do you much good as Nikon is getting out of the scope business.
