Heading up to hunt the morning before work, then taking a couple days off work to hunt / take care of honey-do's. Weather gave us snow in the mts gathering up some of the deer so I guess we'll see how it goes. Herd populations are low still so its a crapshoot. I have some backup areas that always hold small bucks, hopefully I can run into something larger.
Good luck to the UT people heading out for it.

Keep a sharp lookout in the nooks and crannies. Those little hiding places can hold some big critters.

So far, I've seen several hundred does, a handful of elk... more grouse than I've see in the past 5 years combined... and a single buck. Granted I *DID* try and get a shot off on it but he took off just as I was bringing the gun to bear. I hesitated waiting for a opening in the brush but no-go. He was only a 2pt... but a BIG one, 18-20" wide, 16" tall and a massive body. He was old enough to be a full 4pt but I guess just has crappy genes.
Leaves are still on the trees and its really hard to spot / stalk. Hunt is only 7 days long but I had a chance on day 1 so I cant complain :). Heading up this morning in a few minutes to try another canyon. Deer are really scattered this year for some reason. I'm finding single does all over the place or maybe a doe with fawns. I'm used to finding smaller groups of deer that usually have a buck hanging out with them, or a bachelor herd of bucks.
I do know of 2 "last day" bucks that are a sure thing but I'd like to find something else to let them grow bigger (they hang out down by my trailcamera).
