I have a model 70 post 64 .264 with a blind stock that needs to be replaced. What is the difference between pre and post stocks?
Where can I look to get a new/used stocked for my rifle?

Pre64s used floorplates in all models IIRC. In standard stocks, there was a swell for the barrels front sight that is absent on post64 models. The pre64s were cut checkering whereas post64s could be pressed checkered or, later, machine cut. Stock dimensions changed, too, with the grip, in some cases, the comb and the recoil pad or butt plate. The finish on the stocks changed, too, from a varnish to a spray on type, although the latter was functional.

IOW using pre64 stocks on post 64s or vice versa could be done, but, often after some alterations.

Getting a copy of "Gun List" will give you access to several stock builders and older stocks that are available. If you have some custom rifle builders in your area or can locate them nationally, they can be good sources for take off stocks. I located a post64 stock that way and it was a good dollar value. The 264's stock should be dimensionally the same as the standard long action.

Sounds like you have a Model 70-A, which was a post '64 push feed with blind magazine. You should be able to find a new or used stock and floorplate and guard screws. I picked up a used post '64 stock in a gun shop for $50.00. All the best...
