Morax, she was taking the pillows most likely to trade for food.
Not much a 10 year old or so kid can do in a war zone to keep themselves fed. And taking pillows from a solider who she preceves as being able to "order in" new pillows as thats how they view the supply system of the Allies in the GWOT she probably didn't even realize she was unconvincing anybody.
Plus, its not like even though she made it on base or anything that she had any ill intent for the troops, thankfully she didn't, if she did there would have been trouble a long time ago. She is probably young enough she'll end up adopting the Western lifestyle more easily with "western family" raising her then most immigrants from those areas that come here.

If you ever want to see the softer side of a combat soldier, have them walk into devastation where they discover an orphaned child, an orphaned dog, a destitute family.....soldiers will pass the hat like nobody's business and help, rally around this individual and care for them. I have seen it time and again on several continents - it is actually a very humbling experience, it lets you know that the people of the world aren't as bad as we might sometimes think.
I was joking about the sleep, once I hear a nice calming artillery barrage (outgoing of course) or whop..whop.. of a chopper, my head starts nodding and I am usually out. Vince is right though, it isn't a deep sleep so you catch zzzzz's where and when you can.
