Thanks Oring. I haven't shot the 500 yet, but maybe the weight of the 500 would make a difference.

I have the same problem you just mentioned with the 44 mag, but not with a 45 colt loaded at the same speed. Oh well, go figure.

The Ruger Alaskan 454 does kick a bit, but I can still fire it repeatedly with one hand. Curious, but maybe its how we (different people) are made up instead of the gun in some cases.

Interesting, thanks.

Walt

It is the way different perceive recoil, which to me is something that was always fascinating. Case in point... i usually shoot one handed and never had any control issues (in my younger years) Cool . Up until the T/C's in various larger calibers i was always able to have significant control while maintaining accuracy.

Anywho, i picked up a 375JDJ for the first time to shoot (and it was loaded HOT!), but knowing since it was a new arm i was shooting, i loosely put my right hand over my left, placed my finger on the bang switch, and touched that sucker off! Very Happy BUT, i am damn thankful i had my other hand to catch my opening fingers of the other because i was doing a grip i normally do with revolvers, (which for me is different) and that made the gun go back a little further in my hand than i liked. And i'll be the first to admit that is was brutal, but after that i never shot another 375JDJ without a ported tube on it Wink
Now when i go out with my friends, my buddy that ownes the gun now takes the cap screw off and puts the ported tube on for me to shoot Very Happy and without the tube on it, it's too much gun for me Laughing

I got to shoot a 500 S&W when they first came out, a neighbor pick up a 500 S&W performance center It had about a 10inch brl, anyway I got to shoot 2 different loads the 440gr Corbin hard cast and a 350gr load. The 440 had a good kick, but the 350gr load recoil kicked like a 44mag 240gr load in that gun, because the S&W 500 weighs alot. So the 350gr load in my eyes is control- able.
Too much gun to me, means you destroy what your shooting at or the gun is over kill ( and dangerous for your application ), you don't shoot rats in you basement with a 30-06 that's too much gun and plain Dangerous.

Too much gun? Well I think that the term "too much gun" can be very subjective. A .22 is too much gun if you are shooting mice, but not enough gun for foxes.

So long as the calibre you are using is capable of a good humane kill then it is "enough gun", that is assuming that you do your part.

Then again maybe this sucker is more like it:

Oh.......i thought it was....or looked like a fifty Confused In that case, if it's only a 30, it should be on a mini bike or something of the Power wheels persuasion ROFL

Hi

It looks like two .50 BMG weapons to me.

Blowing up the picture, it looks like one of the Barretts up front, and the AN/M2, "Ma Deuce," .50 BMG in the back.

The Barrett Model 82A1 rifle:

The Ma Deuce

...but I'm a terminal ballistics guy, so whadda I know.

You hit the nail squarely on the head Al. The front weapon is the Barretts .50 cal sniper rifle and the rear mount is the Ma Deuce.

Bushy, start droolin' old mate, they are both fifties. The .30 is easily distinguished from the .50 by the barrel arrangement. The .30 has a ventilated sleeve that runs the full length of the barrel. Check one variation out here: Security Arms
The one we used in the aussie army has round ventiliation holes on the barrel sleeve.

Here is the url of the SecurityArms website. A great reference site, and a heap of awesome firearm pics to see.
