I have an idea about incorporating a piece of sorbothane material underneath the legs of the bi-pod!!! (the stuff some recoil pads are made of)
Or maybe even making some kind of a re-placement for the hard rubber feet that’s on my Harris.
I got it figured that this should absorb some energy and take the bounce out of it.

Does anyone know where I can get such material?
I believe some of the cushioned shoe insoles are made out of that material. I use an old rubber floor mat that seems to work pretty good for me.

I wonder about putting a thin sheet (1/8" or so) between the rifle and bipod?

Sorbethane is fairly easy to find...most Chiropodists would have sheets of it or your local Chemist...Drugstore I think you guys call them...would have Sorbethane inserts for shoes.

Something else that maybe of some value is the sealed high density foam mats you can buy as sleeping mats when camping.

SSL, How much deviation are you seeing at 300-500?
Is it enough for me to be concerned with shooting at deer?

It all depends on the rifle and caliber in my experience. Heavier bolt-actions don't seem to be as affected as my Ruger #1s. This is also probably an effect of the two piece stocks and forearm hangers on the Rugers. Typically, I see roughly 3" difference at 300 yards between sandbag and bipod groups with my bolt guns and around 4" with the Rugers. Don't misunderstand...the group sizes vary very little. It is the point of impact that moves...and generally upwards. That's why if I am going to use bipods I re-zero with them rather than relying on the zero from bags. That's one reason that I usually just take the bare rifle and use a day-pack or rolled up jacket for a rest in the field anymore. Try it out...you may not have the same issues and may like the bipod...only experimentation will tell.

As to your later post about cushioning the bipod, that might be worth investigating. You might also try wrapping the springs with oversize pipe-cleaners (hobby stores have them in various colors) to dampen the spring vibrations too.

SSL, thanks for the info !!!

Today while at the local gun shop I was looking the Kick Eez recoil pads they sell. (made from sorbothane)
Right next to them was precut pads (available in different thicknesses) to put on the comb of the stock to help eliminate recoil to the cheek area of your face.

Alright just what I was looking for........................then I looked at the price (13-16 bucks)................I’m hoping Dr. Scholls can get me gellin for a lot less!!!
