According to a recent article in the local rag (Cleveland Plain Dealer) the most commonly purchased vehicle in the Obama devised "Cash for Clunkers" program are manufactured by Toyota and Honda.

The US Government spending up to $4500 (borrowed from China) to encourage American citizens to purchase a Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, etc. is, in my opinion just plain wrong.

I admit that I have NOT done the research to determine which vehicles qualify for this program (I suspect that vehicles manufactured under foreign names need to be assembled in the US).

The reason for my lack of research?

When gas prices were approaching $3.00/gallon in 2007, we traded in our 2001 Durango (I LOVED that truck) that was costing me around 15 MPG for a Pontiac G6 that averages 33 MPG. So the way I see it, the US Government owes me $4500 plus interest since August, 2007.

When gas hit $4.05 a gallon I bought my wife an '08 Ram and less then six months later I traded my '07 Silverado in on another '08 Ram.

I figure that they are just setting up then next round of repo's because all these people can't afford all these new vehicles.

Nice work Osama .The plan also has all the cars traded wrecked. They are made undriveable and scrapped .Obama hasn't even payed any car dealers back yet.

The original plan they had did not allow for foreign manufactures to take advantage of this!!!
Then the politicians from those states that build foreign cars in the U.S. got involved.
Oh yea!!! This is the same group of politicians that turned the low interest government loans program into what we now call government bailouts. Mad
(GM and Chrysler still have to pay them back)
It’s amazing what you can do when you create a new buzzword!!!
