My eldest son (23) had never been hunting yet alone shot a gun. Got him interested in shooting this spring, last week we went up to northern Michigan to go bird hunting with friends after talking him into it, that took three weeks! Story short first day, shot his first bird on the first flush of the day saw his first bull elk up close and personal (fifty yards) and saw two white tail bucks. Second day he got three more birds (pats). In all 22 flushes 4 birds all his 12 elk 2 were bulls and six white tail two bucks. Great memories alot of laughs mixed with cussing about how bad our shooting was but now have a new hunting buddy a great shooting partner and a son who cant wait to get into the woods again...

That's great! Congrats on the new partner!

Where in MI? I still have some relatives near Ishpeming but haven't been up there in many years.

I vaguely recall a wildlife museum in Gaylord?

Now guns are like golf clubs, you need certain ones for certain situations. You can't play the whole game with just a putter or a wood...

Savagenut,
I like a story with happy ending. I just got back from two days hunting on a pheasant farm in PA with a great group of guys.

I used to stop at the Lumberjack Restaurant in Long Branch on Route 75. Take care...

That is brilliant Savage...time spent with your family in any pursuit is time well spent...even more so in a pastime everyone enjoys.

Cheers, Vince
