I live in upstate New York right on Lake Ontario. My best friend and I are looking at doing a week long hunt in the spring or summer. The first question is where is the closest good area if we were to drive. The second question is are we nuts to drive we are planning four rifles a piece and ammo. Any advice would be helpful.

South Dakota will probably be the closest for you guys. PD hunters drive that distance all the time. The advantage is that you can take all the equipment you need and not worry about it not arriving on time by air or ground shipping. Inquire at varminthunter.com for some info on area hunting. There are several bare bones places to stay for the week and use as hunting central. They advertise in the Varmint Hunter Magazine.
